: Fires/firewood?

I did a search in this section, but came up with nothing on whether fires are legal or not. Also, if I have the ability to bring a large amount of firewood, would it be feasible to sell it off or is that sort of thing frowned upon? Would there be a demand?

FIRES ARE WELCOMED !!!!!!

you can build just as BIG a fire as anyone could !!!!

if you can't see it from outter space--- it isn't a Tin Bender fire !!

the only thing--- NO NAILS--- as in -NO pallets !
cut lumber, tree 'rounds', tree limbs, WHOLE trees, ----- we did have a guy with a dump truck that would bring down a load of cut plywood from a 'wire spool' factory--- ==== 1/4 mile was as close as you could stand !!!!

there is NO native vegitation that might burn !!!!! (ie: lakebed in the desert !)

you ever hear of the Great Mojave Forrest ?????
it was once, but in the old days, we cut the trees to make houses and the T-Rex kept stepping on our houses--- we cut more trees to keep the critters away==== now we have the Great Mojave Desert !!!!!

BRING IT !!!!

Nobody can say it quite like Krusty!
You could become very popular if you had 'surplus' firewood that people could exchange 'gifts' for.
(I think you need a permit to sell anything on Federal land...)

I plan on bringing firewood with me from out of state, will I run into any problems at the ca check stations?

I would try to hide it from plain view and not volunteer the info. Not a plant or fruit, but they might worry about a bug infestation. I realize you are gonna burn it, but they may have to look at it differently. If you get stopped at the checkpoint, which I always do because I have no front plate on my tow vehicle, they always ask for fruits/vegetables or plants. Just so you know!

I came back to CA from AZ two weeks ago, they specifically asked about firewood. Don't know why, probably not a good idea to lie about it.

I do not recommend you lie either, just do not volunteer the info. I have never been asked about firewood specifically. Anyways, there are a few local guys you can get some from. I can remember atleast 2 or 3 on the way in from the 15.

There is a fire wood place in Lucerne called Stay Warm I think. Its will be on your right heading toward the hammers.

I was planning on bringing my own. The firewood I was planning to bring is "constuction debris" though. No, not a bunch of 2x4's riddled with nails, cut-off from a few jobs that I've been stocking up on. I'm thinking this would fly at the checkpoint coming in from Vegas. What do you guys think?

So what happens if i tell them i don't have firewood and they find out i do? If its under a camper shell and hidden by other stuff I assume they aren't gonna search the truck, or is california that crazy?

oh and it isn't pine so no pine beetles

if it were me--- and i can only speak for me-- I would not worry about it !!!!!

unless the border people have some reason to stop you--- they won't--

IF someone asks,-- "no i don't have any plants ! "

What were they looking for?!?!? IS there any way to bypass these check stations?

maybe take your front plate off your truck and plate off your trailer and blow through it.

They are looking for biological stuff that mite be carrying other biological stuff, that wants to eat our native biological stuff. In other words, they're sometimes looking for everything, sometimes looking for nothing, I've been told I have to get rid of peaches on my way back from Utah, and other times declare them and they have no problems.

There is a frontage road that parallels the 15, look for it on Google maps, but essentially you get off a bit before the check-point, cross over the freeway and get back on anywhere past the check-point. Do it all the time to get around traffic. On the 40 there is no check-point, or is there one on the 80 or the 5, and those are the only ways I've ever entered the State from another State.

JV is in the desert, nowhere near any delicate plant life, so if your firewood happens to have some African fighting mushrooms or something, don't worry about it, take a bypass and bring it on. It's more than likely going to be un-warm on the lakebed and even if it's 95*, bigger fires are always better while camping.

There is a checkpoint on the I-40. It's between the AZ border and Needles.

Just my experience....

I was camping in Havasu and on the way back into CA these guys stopped me. They inspected the wood that I had in the bed of my truck and asked where it came from. I told them I brought it in from CA and they finally let me go with the wood. I asked what I could do to avoid any problems next time. They told me to spray the wood with insecticide before I leave and show them what I sprayed it with. I also asked what they would do with the wood if there was a problem with it. The guy pointed to a dumpster on the side of the road.

Good luck

We are coming from the East on I-10, got a half truck bed full of wood, like i said it will be under a camper top with tinted windows and can throw other junk on top of it so it hopefully can't be seen. Is there a frontage road or some way around a checkpoint that may be on I-10, i don't want to have to dump my firewood.
