I need to know what aftermarket(if any)torque converters will work in the 727 in my Scout. Are they all the same for the chrysler and IH 727's?? Also what is the stock stall speed.
TIA

IIRC, pretty much any converter for a non-lockup 727 should work - even the ones with the ring gear mounted to the converter work.

Stock stall is LOW.. a good crawlin' under 1000rpm.

One note of caution - there are TWO bolt patterns for the converters. I've seen IH flexplates with both patterns, and with just one pattern.

So does that mean that one 727 from a scout might not work in another. i just pulled on from my parts truck and need to put it in my daily driver. If they are different bolt pattersn can you just swap out the converters?

Hey bud go to hughes converters they are in town and will hook you up with exactly what you need. If you blow a tranny and little metal pieces get in the converter they will sell another one for CHEAP! I MEAN CHEAP! trust me I know... They are AWESOME and really helpful they have done it all too and have been around forever.

Swap converters, or swap the flexplate on the engine.

VERIFY that the converter will bolt up to the flexplate BEFORE you bolt everything else up. Kinda sucks to have it all reinstalled and you only need to do the torque converter bolts.. and only THEN do you realize you needed the flexplate off the old engine to go with the converter..

*sigh*

Where is Hughes? Sounds familar, is it on Cave Creek? I haven't blown this tranny, actually it's only got 3k on it, been sitting in my parts rig for about a year
Had it rebuilt it a few months before a tow truck smashed it.

My current trany has no park gear nad I'm tired of carrying around a big rock to stop my truck from rolling away.

McDowell between I-17 and grand North side of the road. Not really hard to find. They do from daily drivers all the way up to as extreme as you want to pay for.

Wouldn't it be easier to just hook up the e-brake?

It is hooked up but isn't worth a damn. Got it almost as tight as it will go and it still sucks.

Mine works well after putting in new shoes and then SHIMMING the e-brake adjuster cable. I had to take the adjusting nut completely off and slide a few spacers onto the long adjusting bolt, then put the assembly back together - my cable had stretched that much.
