: KOH in the mud?
_peteyg 01-15-2010, 10:00 AM Next week's series of storms are expected to bring up to 20" of rain to the foothills, and 4" - 10" of rain the the coasts and valleys. They said the desert was going to get about 3" - 8". Just in time for KOH, the lakebed will actually be a lake....
JV mud is thick, nasty shit. Should make it interesting. All of the trails will get washed out, too, just in time to make it all different right before the race. Good times.
losekannon 01-15-2010, 12:00 PM Would be cool if we get that much rain! That’s going to make the camping out there crowded as fawk if the lake bed is a lake again :laughing:

We got about that much last year at this time.
It dried up nicely for the race
xjkevin 01-15-2010, 03:23 PM At least, maybe the dust will be down this year...>?
Buckon37s 01-15-2010, 04:29 PM Lake should be dry but it would be killer for the trails.

Yep, all the stacking and 44" tires in the world doesn't change the trails as much as two straight days of rain
:D
Jeff Knoll 01-15-2010, 10:25 PM East coast boys have been doing rain dances, blame it on them.:flipoff2:

DJ404564X4 01-19-2010, 11:08 PM i have the same amount of water at lake BMW in one day as i did last year after several days of rain. i was told we only got half a inch so far. two inches is predicted for the storm tomorrow, and the storm after that has more rain i've been told.
lake BMW last year...i think i've had more so far this week.

:lmao: But not really, it could end badly.
Anyone have any pics on the current conditions on the lake bed?
Bigburlynakedguy 01-21-2010, 02:23 PM My son stuck a YZ426 in a bomb crater that 'looked' dry. 3" of crust later it was stuck stuck! He had goey clay mud from head to toe and we had to get a jeep to pull it out. The lakebed gets gooey, but not much standing water. It's fun for psuedo 'ice' wheeling....50 mph and crank the wheel, impossible to roll w/o the help of a crater.
DJ404564X4 01-21-2010, 04:14 PM has been raining since last night a 3pm till now...
Danger Ranger 01-21-2010, 04:22 PM Lake bed mud is the worst mud I have ever encountered! It had been raining for an hour or two? We took off across the lakebed and I was clueless. We hit the mud haulin ass and had freaking basketball sized mud clumps landing on us! Even at 1/2mph my tires were still slingin nasty nasty mud :lmao:
Soundguy 01-23-2010, 07:58 PM Any update on the lake bed condition? Some of us are towing large trailers behind 2WD tow rigs. :D

And none of it makes a difference because we're still 3 weeks out ;)

TurtleTruck 01-24-2010, 01:32 PM Lake bed mud is the worst mud I have ever encountered!
I just spent 30 minutes and $14 in quarters to get Melville mud off of my truck from yesterday. I had only crossed one 30' section on the far edge of the lake and it ended up even on top of my truck! It was packed deep into the wheel wells and stuck there, laughing at the power washer... Beware Melville mud! I wish I had gone back the way I came and found another route. It would have been faster in the long run.

Krusty 01-25-2010, 11:36 AM Jeff's sales pitch sounds like one that came out years ago-----
river front lots for sale on the banks of the Armagosa River !! the sales pamphlets even went so far as to have a pic of a riverboat on the river !!!!!
a LOT of 'back-easterners' bought to lots as the price was too good to pass up !!
the Armagosa River is the bottom of Death Valley !!!!!!!!!!!! (NO water, NO RIVER !!)
go git 'em Jeff'ie !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There is no danger of that. Means was nearly dry on Sunday. It isn't supposed to rain out there (other than a drizzle maybe) until the LCQ days. The other lake, Melville, I think, is truly a lake.
TurtleTruck 02-02-2010, 09:36 AM Main camp and pits are fine. General camping will be OK too, but there will not be as much room as normal because a lot of places folks usually camp east of Boone road are still mud.
Be very careful if you tow out near the phone tree. It may look dry, but anything heavy will sink. On Sunday there were people on the south lobe of the lake with trailers and they were fine. That will be the best area for general camping.
If someone wants to find mud there is plenty to be had, but not on the race course.
Soundguy 02-02-2010, 10:03 AM Awsome, can't wait to get back out there. :smokin:
TurtleTruck 02-03-2010, 06:45 AM It is amazing how fast Means is drying up.
Yesterday, late afternoon, we got back from marking course (highly recommended, pounding stakes all day!) and a local kid came up to camp asking us to pull his friend's motorcycle out of a mud filled bomb crater out in the middle of the lake. I assumed that it was going to be a sloppy mess just getting to him and then needing to tie several tow straps together just to reach him. I was trying to keep mud off of my truck, but these guys needed help, so off I went.
We had to thread our way among some puddles, but mostly it was just damp and barely sticking to my tires! I was able to back right up the the bomb crater where the bike was buried in mud up to the bottom of the tank and did not even spin a tire as I slowly pulled him out!
When I got here on Sun the Phone Bush was surrounded by water. Yesterday I drove right up to it.:D
I still think that heavy vehicles should be very careful where they go, but was really encouraged to see how fast Means is drying up!
