: 80 series rear shock ideas
MochaMike 01-15-2010, 10:54 PM Post up some pics of what/how you did it.
I just gutted my bed, and will be swapping to 60s soon.
I don't like the old way I did them with a steep pitch (I want to go vertical/straight up & down).
Rear will be 67" WMS to WMS with Hummer H2s (5.5" BS).
I'm not sure if shocks will fit outside the frame in the inner fender well.
Other option would be to mount them up into the bed by 4-5" (which I think I have room for).
What have other done?
Pix of todays sawzall work:

IDScout 01-15-2010, 11:23 PM Here is what I did:
You can see the frame mounts here

Here is how I recessed the bed to clear the frame mounts

Here you can see the angle it sits at(yes there is mud on my shocks:flipoff2:)

JERM83 01-15-2010, 11:56 PM Why didnt you like them with a steep pitch? Too much body lean? Mine has a lot of body lean in the corners, but i just go a little slower and its fine. I know its not what your looking for but heres a pic of my setup.

brocbronc 01-16-2010, 09:14 PM outside frame rails with 67 WMS 14 bolt
plug ugly 01-16-2010, 11:52 PM what about shock hoops like the toyota guys use outside the frame rails.
MochaMike 01-17-2010, 09:34 AM outside frame rails with 67 WMS 14 bolt
This is kinda what I want to do.
Do you have pix of the shock mounts?
Trying to see if I can fab them up inside the fender well, or if I have to do it inside the bed, with it going through the fender well.
Urban Wheeler 01-17-2010, 11:49 AM I'll be keeping an eye on this thread. I'm wondering how my struts are going to fit without cutting frame.

This looks to me like a great setup to keep from cutting holes in your floor and keeping the interior "intact" I have read a few discussions of it on the board but I haven't seen anyone do one.
plug ugly 01-17-2010, 06:08 PM I would think you would need an angineering degree to figure that one out as far as valving, etc, as the fulcrum point applies mechanical advantage
rkscout 01-17-2010, 07:23 PM Mine are outside the frame. Rear full width 60. 4.5" bs wheels. Rubs the one shock that I had to move out more than the other one due to the trans coolers being in the way. It only rubs it a little. Tied the upper mount into the cage. The upper mount is still the same when it was on leaves. Lost a lot of my old build pics when my computer went down. Have a better pic of the upper mount on my build page.
guidolyons 01-17-2010, 11:23 PM When I get back home to do mine, I plan on using F250 front shock mounts and mount them straight up outside the frame like BrocBronc's.

The frame rails are about 2-3" inboarded from the fender wells.
There is actually a C channel that runs front to back with helps to give it support.
You'll have to either put a 2" spacer between the F250 bracket & the frame rail, or do what I am thinking of, & make an upside-down L bracket, which will go from the frame rail, into the bed, and out the inner fender well.

famina777 01-25-2010, 01:17 AM I spent my money figuring out what works in practice by trail and error instead
In all seriousness, look at the original post, which basically says he can't find a good workable OME solution. Seems good advice to consider some alternatives on both springs and shocks.
OME is a decent kit - but you can do far better depending on your needs and how much you are willing to spend on them.

chris fresh 01-25-2010, 04:49 AM i'll be using the f-250 mounts as well on my 800,i will have to modify them because of the body to frame difference.they will be out boarded as well, wich shouldn't be a problem with my full width 14b and 60.

That's a pretty trick set up,if you have about 6 grand just for a shocks, tube, bushings, hardware and misc materials.i'm guessing that set up is in the same ballpark as the trophy truck design.huge travel with a medium size shock.your suspension should not cost 80% of total vehicle value, but that's just me.

When I look at it I see a trailer spindle and hub with the lever welded to it, 2 heim joints and a piece of tubing. Your buying a shock anyway so thats a wash. Ill bet a spindle and hub from a boneyard 30 or 44 would serve fine. Im guessing I could do it for about 5800 less and keep all my interior room. I see the math and shock valving being the tough part.
Mine is an SII but I would think you could do a hoop as well.
