Well I was doing great on everything until I tried to remove the small cage roller bearing from the forward end of the main shaft, that little sucker won't come out.......anybody have a suggestion? Thanks in advance.

I use a chisel to bust the thing into pieces. I have had limited success with the most expensive harbor freight tool-a blind bearing puller set I picked up 3 years ago ($90!). Does fine on pilot bearings but those little needle things are boogers.

The few that I have done seemed to require the chisel method.
Try to split the cage with a sharp chisel and then fold the works in on itself to remove.
Just dont score the shaft much while doin' this.

I used the chisel method almost a year ago on my 74. I replaced all the gears, shafts, and bearings, talk about a huge difference. I can almost talk to my passenger without shouting now.:D

I usually leave them alone if they are OK. If I have to get one out, I break all the needles out and use a carbide mill bit or diamond burr in my die grinder to carefully cut a notch in the race. Then it comes out by prying with a screwdriver.
