I just purchased an 87 YJ with the dreaded 4.2 and 5 speed Peugot BA10/5. It is stuck in 3rd gear. I have looked at schematics to see if i coule dget to the shift forks to get it out of gear, but have found very little info abut this tranny. I hear this tranny is a money pit. How do the shift linkages work inside this tranny. do I need to pull the whole tranny in order to get in into neutral. Don't want to spend much money on this pit of a transmission.

I have a 4.3 and 4l60E to go in sometime in the future, but need to finish my truggy first. Need to get this so I can drive it on the road until room in the garage comes open to get this rig in for the swap. Wife has started to tell me that 4 broken rigs in the driveway is to many.

Thanks

Thanks for the advice on the tranny. I got it out of gear. It was pretty easy. Put it in low four and drove it around the block. Just pushed it hard enough and it popped out of gear. Next year will swap in a 4.3 and 4l60E anlong with mog 404 axles, but have to finish other projects first.
