I have a 302/AOD mounted in a '64 Ford with a divorced t-case. It is a project I recently aqcuired. once I got the thing running ( a nightmare in itself) I found that the trans won't shift out of low gear no matter where the cable operated floor shifter is located. A little research has lead me to find that I am missing the kickdown or Throttle valve cable assembly all together. I have read that it will make for odd shifts etc. if it is missing. anyone have any similar experiences. I understand that it is detrimental to have this in place.

An AOD should not and will not move without the tv cable hooked up

The AOD uses fluid pressure on the clutch bands to operate. It must have the correct line pressure to operate. When you hook up a TV cable it must be set just right or you will turn the guts of the AOD into slush. I have heard many an AOD referred to as slushbox because they werent hooked up right and cooked them selves. Are you positive you have an AOD? Look on the bottom of the trans and on an AOD the trans pan will say METRIC in big letters

It is definately an AOD.* it says metric on the pan and the pan shape is consistant of the shape in the Ford Service manual.* I have found that the lever on the transmission that the TV would hook up to is missing altogether.* a short section of spline showing as well as a threaded end was the indicator.* Is it possible that the shaft could be clocked in such a way that it would refuse to shift out of first gear?* I will order the appropriate cable kit from Lokar for the Edelbrock carb. but not until I find out if it is going to work or not.* I did not install the trans. but it has never worked right. The last owner said the donor car ran fine.

That will work. That splined shaft is what the cable pulls on the control the pressure. That shaft has nothing to do with what gear its in. If the trans and motor are connected the crank it up and put the trans in gear. then apply pressure to the shaft turning it next the motor and it should begin to spin
