Ok, so I'm new to the forum, new to carbs and I'm at my wits end. I hope someone can help me. About a year ago I bought a CJ-7 with a 289 swapped in. To make a long story short after sitting for a while the motor runs terrible. I found fuel leaking on the the throttle plates in the secondary while the motor is running. After rebuilding the carb with a trickit and messing around with the adjustment of the floats it's still doing the same thing. The carb has vacuum secondaries and an electric choke. I'm out of ideas. Any help would be greatly appreacated.

This might sound dumb but check your fuel PSI. it might be to high and the carb can not keep up with the amount that is being pumped in to the carb.

I did not check the fuel pressure, in reality I didn't think it would be an issue with a mechanical fuel pump. The thing is nothing changed from when it ran last, besides the carb becoming a fountian of fuel that is.

Holleys use a vacuum activated power valve that is in the primary side of the carb. Many of the performance 4 Bbls. will have a power valve in both sides. If there is a thick metering plate on the secondary side you may have 2 power valves in the carb. the metering plate is the 3/8 to 1/2 inch plate between the float bowl and the main body of the carb. where the jets are held, there is usually a number value stamped into one of the flats of the P/V, this is the vacuum value where the P/V is supposed to open and enrich the fuel being metered to the engine. If there is a power valve and it is bad replace it with one of the same value. Some Holleys do not have a P/V for the secondaries. If yours is one that has no P/V you have likely messed up the float setting or did not get the needle and seat assembled properly.
Good luck with it and let us know what you find.
