I know that this has been visited several times, but lets get it all together on this one post.
I have a 1.3 sitting on the floor of my shop just begging for major mods. I am looking for torque in the 2 to 4500 rpm range.
Who has done what?
Why?
Did it give the expected results?
Anyone put their Modified 1.3 engines on a dyno?
What did the print out look like?

Even if you get a 20% increase in HP and torque-

20% of nothin' is NOTHIN':flipoff2:

JK - go for it - turbo that puppy or supercharge it . Might be an interesting project.

Buy a 1.6. Like bits said, even if you get a 20% increase, it's still not much for the money your going to spend. FWIW I have a 1.3, bored .030, A sumo head with 1.6 exhaust valves an the low end cam. I noticed after the install it would idle along in two high without stalling, but went to some 33's and that went away. If you still want to do it my motor/head will be for sale in a couple months. I am going to put the 1.6 I bought for my project rig into this one.

Yea, I'd have to agree. Do a 1.6 8V. Extra stroke, all torque. The 1.3 has a great pull for a small motor, but the 1.6 is a big improvement.

FYI - A few things I did to up the torque even more on the 1.6 8V. Bump the compression (.020 off the head is easy and safe), keep a mild cam (min valve overlap), retard cam timing 4 deg (needed to make up for .020 off head), good strong ignition (seems to keep it more stable at low RPM). Also you can advance your ign timing, it'll give it quicker response on bottom end. Don't go too big on the exhaust plumbing, you need some back pressure for bottom-end.
