The price of the AA adapter is $700+!
The engine up front will be a 4.3 Vortec.
I've got 4.88's in the diff.
I'm wanting a reliable set up that gives me a good low crawl and
hopefully 60mph or so on the highway.
I already have the 4.3 and 4l60e. Before I shell out the dough to get the adapter, I'd like some opinions on this.
I've had my FJ for 4yrs and all of my off-road driving experience is with the 2f and 4spd so the auto. will be a new deal to me.

u coudl always get a centerd 60 for cheap or 44 and run the auto to toyota mini cases too. but ive seen guys with autos running the stocker case behind them with no problems! jiMMy
I ran a 350/th400/3 speed/488 gears for several years. I loved it on hill climbs but it was not low enough on rocks.
I've seen autos with a nice crawl speed.
I'm wondering if there is much of a difference between the th400 tranny and the 4l60e that I'm proposing?
And don't some guys add something to the stock tcase to get it lower?

The first gear on on the 4L60E is 3:1 where the T400/T350 is 2.5:1.
Mated with 4.88's and the 2.2 reduction of the split case and you will be nice and low if you figure in the 2x added by the torque converter.
I run a 4L60E, 3:1 Atlas and 4.88's and I am plenty low on the rocks, even with 42" tires.
On the road, I need deeper gears if I ever want to use OD.
I think the 4L60E is worth the extra $$.

make sure you mount the engine as far forward as possible, otherwise you'll end up with a super short rear drive shaft. sometimes you have to do a body lift for the tub to clear the t-case, since it does get pushed back a ways.
if you decide that you're gonna run this setup, get a hold of me. i have a new adapter in the box that i will mostlikely not use. you can have it for $450 including shipping.;)

I'm interested in your adapter if you are not going to use it.
Send me a message and we can work it out.
Thanks!

i have a 700r4 (close enough) to cruiser 3speed case in my fj40...i have no complaints, but if i were to do it again, i'd made it to a different tcase, with a centered rear output and gone w/ a diffeent rear end...on the fj45, its getting a small buildup right now just to have fun with it until i get my TBI motor, nv4500 or auto and maybe a dana 300, np205 or atlas depending on what tranny i use and what funds i have left...but if you can get the adapter for 450 i'd say go for it
