Anyone on here fab'd up a diffrent shock setup under the back of their XJ with leafs springs? Im gonna be picking up a 8.8 monday so when i do this swap i plan on doing a diffrent kind of shock setup as well. I would like to do something like pictured below, except the upper shock eyes will be merely an inch or so away from each other, enough they wont touch during articulation. If anyone has done this, post up some pics, also suggestions and input would be appreciated.

Not sure this belongs here, but check my site for my write-up. It looks pretty much like what you've got pictured.

The farther you lay the shocks over, the less effective they become.

Agreed. Putting them at the angle you have in mind would make them pratically useless. The stock setup insn't "terrible" but the axle end mounts are just stoopid. Change those, run a shorter shock, and leave em in the factory upper location.

And Bacon! :bounce: :flipoff2:

Yep, wrong spot. The 8.8 fad...leafs, and shock questions....all belong in the non.

Ill eventually get the hang of where everything is supposed to go, figured this was regular cherokee chat kinda topic. I didnt relize laying them in further would make them less effective, i got the idea from a buddy of mine who just SAS'd a yota and done the rearend under it that way and hes built numerous hardcore trucks and buggys.

Apparently not enough of them to get em right. Who in there right mind would set shocks at that severe angle on a buggy??? Think about the acctual purpose of the shock. It helps control your suspension in a sense. Your suspension moves vertically. So why would you mount a shock horizontally?

Realistically it wouldnt be terrible. The dampening will be much weaker though. Since you have other options, use them. Avoid the high angle route as much as possible.

Well it does make sense to me about the shocks not working like they should if mounted like he has them, ive never seen him mount them that way on a buggy, only under the back of trucks.

Also Jeepfreak, i do believe ill be prety close to building the same setup you have, looks good by the way. i like it
