My jeep runs great, when it's driven.....
That being said, it is not my DD. When it sits for a couple of days, it takes a long time to start. It cranks and cranks, but takes a while to start. If it sits just one day, it is fine. Starts right up quickly and idles smoothly. I've yet to see any need to switching to MPI since she idles and runs nice.
It is a 1990 with a carburated 258. When it is cranking I don't smell gas like I did with my old mustang nor do I see any discolored exhaust come from my exhaust tip. That leads me to believe that my fuel line is draining back into my gas tank. Is this possible? Does a carburated engine have an electric pump in the tank or near it? Is my mechanical pump getting ready to fail? Does it have a mechanical pump at all?
