My new toys arrived from the military surplus shop. But I think they got a bit confused. I ordered 40 feet of tow strap length, and I ended up with salad mix. I tried putting some ranch dressing on it and eating it, but it was kind of tough.
My old tow strap was very frayed. I now have this stuff, as well as a 20' length of tobasco sauce that is 4ply strap with loops at the end. Supposed to be the stretchy kind also.
Cool. http://www.nwbinders.net/MiscImages/SaladMix.jpg

Where did you order it from & how much $$? What kind of ends does the 40' salad mix have on it?

I picked up a 30' 4" strap with leather lined loops off Ebay for $30.00. I also picked up 2 20' 4" trucker straps with a single flat loop on the end for cargo tie down from Ebay for $25.00. The two trucker straps will go to my neighbor how does canvas work to add loops on to the ends. All adds up to 1 30' 4" and 2 20' 4" straps for $60.00. Scream'n deal

About 20 years ago I got a strap similar to that from a surplus place - it, too, was 40' long, and was a strap used on the drogue landing chute for F-4 jets. Something like 20,000 lb test. Took it down to a saddle maker and had him sew big loops into the ends (and some short pieces against the side of the loop to ride against rough surfaces). When it was stolen, had another one made, and a couple of years ago drove over it while pulling another Scout, cutting it in half.

40' tow strap is open ended, no loops. .25/ft $10 total. I figure I can tie a knot in the end, or leave it open or wrap it or, just about anything. I figure to use it more as an extender for the 20' than anything else.
the 20' 4ply military pull cost $14.95. It looks really sweet. $8 in shipping from Idaho. Took 3 days to get everything.
This is a shot of the center of the strap. The way it is put together, two plies are sewn together, then those two two plies, are sewn together at the ends and in the middle, but through the length, the two two plies are separate.

Not sure how strong the open ended nylon strap is
*Nylon tow strap can be a lifesaver when you get stuck. I keep a 25 foot piece in my truck. The strap stretches to absorb the shock which help protects your vehicle. 25 cents a foot. Just order how many feet you want. Olive Drab. New.*
I am going to guy onto someone's jeep down at the mall and drag it around to see how hard it is to break.
If it doesn't break, I'll try it on a real truck.
This is the description of the tow strap
*20-Foot Tow Strap. Super Strong, O.D. green, 1-3/4in. wide nylon webbing. Webbing has a loop on each end. These stretch when you pull to absorb shock and actually helps pull the vehicle out much easier than chain. I use this all winter with my M37. When the drifts get 4 feet deep, guess who the neighbors call. *

Dang bumper tore right off the Jeep at lunch when I was trying out the tow straps. I only got him about 50 feet too. Left cool tracks from his tires. Couldn't find the owner, and but I guess he had it in park with the e-brake set. Oh well. Have to try a toy I guess. <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">

Oh. That is the problem. I was just copying the URL from my IE5.x URL window, then clicking on URL below, and pasting the address over the top. It kept giving me the wierd line, but I didn't know why.
So, the generator does not like to end with */*. I'll remember that.
They have some pretty cool stuff. I bookmarked it, and I don't keep many bookmarks.
