I did the search thing but didn't see the topic I wanted. My question is if I buy 2 batteries (new) can I hook them up without using a battery isolator setup? Will it cause any damage?

Yes you can. They will only be as good as the weaker of the two but as long as they are the same and the same age it is close enough to not matter. IMO
