: Bead lock dimensions
Rockrat 10-05-2002, 06:32 AM Ok I did the search and saw a lot of stuff but just want to double check a few things before I make my cuts I am making my DIY beadlocks 1/4" steel. The outer dimension, is to the dimension of my wheel 16-1/8" the inner cut Im going with is either 10"or 11" have not decided yet but the question I have is the bolt ring I think I came up with 14-3/8 on center I really dont want to cut 32 holes at that dimension to find out its wrong. Anybody out there no exactly. I tried calling Scott at Rockstomper but no one had answered the phone, Im sure being the type of person he is he would have told me. He doesnt keep secrets and has been very open about stuff. Anybody got this dimension thanx in advance
I would like to hear from the guys that have them not I think. And if you want to flame knock your socks off just would like a straight answer.
BillaVista 10-05-2002, 10:37 AM These are for 15" wheels:

are these something you have made or purchaced??
thanx Scott
Rockrat 10-05-2002, 06:48 PM anybody else with an opinion??

fabricator 10-06-2002, 07:20 AM rockrat;
i made some , the od was 16.25 the id was 8.00
the bolt dia was 14.00.
there are pic's on the board somewhere, if you can't find them , i can repost them.
i called them mudrings , but they work better than i thought
by keeping the rocks out of your hubs and off your valvestem.
by the way they don't hold the mud loke everyone thought.
Rockrat 10-06-2002, 08:13 AM Foundem very nice, I read the entire section did you ever come up with a website to sellem on. Also what is your take on the pics above with the different bolt ring to center and size of hole 7/16-9/16 and 13/16- 7/8 ??? Shouldnt they be a perfect sandwich???
BillaVista 10-06-2002, 03:39 PM holes are different diameters - inner larger for nutcerts.
diameter of bolt ring difference - probably just a measuring error on my part, but may have to do with centering the tire.
Scott@Rockstomper 10-06-2002, 04:00 PM I hope those weren't measured off my rings... 'cause the ID is off by more than two inches from what ours are cut at. In fact, you've got a spec'd ID that's bigger than our bolt circle.
Also, the bolt circles should match from inner to outer. Don't go by the spacing from the ID to the bolt holes--it's less precise than measuring the bolt circle across the ring.
Rockrat (and others) I'm specifically not going to post what our beadlock dimensions are--they're the result of a fair bit of R&D time, and as such (IMHO) shouldn't be a "freebie". Worse, if you exactly copy our product, and use inferior bolts, cheepo steel, etc., and one fails, who gets sued over the design?
That said, Rockrat, the dimensions you've listed are smaller, across the board (ID, OD, and BC) than ours. Not by much, but enough to notice on comparison. The smaller bolt circle will make it slightly easier to get to the nuts on the backside, and the smaller ID will reduce ring "coning".
The different hole sizes inner to outer that Bill posted, are because the smaller holes are a bolt-clearance hole; the larger holes are a specific size for rivet-nuts. You can use the same size holes inner and outer if you plan to use conventional nuts.
EDIT: Bill, I found the error on your drawing--you calculated the ID instead of measuring it, didn't you? Subtract another ring width and it'll be better. :)
Rockrat 10-06-2002, 04:11 PM No problem i understand the copy issue I was realy just lookin for the bolt center dimension and they have been answered and after reading what I posted I saw a typo on my dimensions. As far as lawsuits and failure I wasnt brought up that way just have th tools to do it and was lookin for advice.
thanx
Scott

It's not you suing me that I'm worried about. :(
If you go bigger than 14 on the bolt circle, you'll have much much trouble. Smaller than 13 will probably also generate headaches. Anywhere between, assuming a decent ring width, and the bolts reasonably centered within the ring width, should be OK.
fabricator 10-06-2002, 06:05 PM Rockrat;
don't have a website, my holes on both rings
are .375 as well as my bolts.
i use nylocs for my nuts.
hope this helps

BillaVista 10-06-2002, 06:19 PM Scott,
You're right - math error.
Also - I aint sayin if'n they are supposed to be Rockstomper dimensions, or not, because:
a) It would be a bit tight to post exact dimensions
b) I can't measure acurately enough
c) It's just supposed to get you in the ballpark (math error notwithstanding)
Rockrat 10-06-2002, 07:46 PM I appreciate everyones responce I now have a finished dimesion and will proceed with the cutting thanx again for all your help Bill, Fabricator, and Scott
