I dont have a new Ford but I have a friend with a 2010 F-350 and he is running the Spartan and claims to be getting close to 20 on the highway and around 18 in town.

90% of Ford owners who do mods over inflate EVERYTHING...their gas mileage, 1/4 mile times, looks, etc...:p

Theres a few on here. But yes Id say majority are cummins and early psd owners.Hell Ive owned several myself....LOL. Check out pix of tow rigs in this section and find someone in there thats posted pix and Pm them. I hear all this praise for a spartan tune but yet to see any in action so no grounds for opinion.

If possible DPF delete and EGR delete. Tune to prevent codes and roll. I personally would keep it stock, buy my 2,000 dollar 7yr/200K mile Ford engine warranty and enjoy their great service department coffee.

Speaking from experience I would really keep it stock, we've seen a great deal of warranty repairs on our 6.4s. I'm over hot rodding once my personal truck is gone. It will be OE wheels/tires and no programmers for me.

That being said, keeping the boost down is the biggest fuel miser. If you have 3.73s and the OE 20" wheels keep it under 70, that seems to be a huge helper. The one I've driven has gotten 18 for an entire tank as long as I kept out of the go pedal and under 70 mph (XLT CC/SB 4x4).

So someone you know, bought an f550 designed to haul heavy, and it has 22's on it, and you're worried about fuel mileage? I Is confused.

Lots of us have come to the point where we would rather deal with the over inflated "issues" of a Ford diesel than deal with the systemic transmission and chassis issues we have had with Dodge trucks.

Don't drive like an asshole.
Make sure that you have a recent flash.
If you are getting 10mpg in a F-550 count yourself lucky.
If all that doesn't float your boat, Spartan and a delete pipe.

Yes with 110,000 miles on my 2005 CTD is very systemic, I have the same clutch, fuel pump, and frame. :flipoff2:

Back to topic

I just talked to the guy that lives across the street. He has a F550 with the 6.4 twin turbo. He dumped the muffler, big air filter on a custom intake, kept the tires up to pressure, drives it like a old lady. His had a tool box bed on it with a crane. He also hauls a gooseneck dump trailer. The best he gets is 15MPG. He also runs all synthetic oil in everything.

Having had a 03, a 04, a 06 and a 07 Dodge 3500 DRW/4x4/Auto all of them needed a complete front end by 100,000km (60,000 miles) and there were 5 transmission replacements on them again within 100,000km. In the same time and mileage limits with 8 F-350's I can count a couple of ball joints and a set of unit bearings and less time spent in the shop with all 8 Fords combined than the 07 Dodge by itself...

Once again:

1. Get a DPF & DOC delete pipe
2. Spartan or SCT tuner
3. They are sequential turbos, not twin turbos. There is a difference
4. I'll take a 5R110 over a 48RE any day of the week

Mileage should increase from about 10 mpg highway to 14.5-16 mpg (unloaded) depending on tire size and how much of an asshole you drive like. All of your Dodge friends will then be pissed off over how fast your truck got in just an hour and a half of work vs. their trucks.

The F550s have extremely low gears, so you aren't going to place anywhere near some of us with 3.73s and a 6.4 regardless of what you do.

You lie. Cummins engines in dodge trucks are just like 350 chevs. Everyone is out of a corvette and makes 500 horse power. The difference with the cummins is, you'll get 500k miles before changing the oil and 30mpg towing in the city.

my dad has a 6.4. It will get 18 on the highway, but in town will only get about 12-13 because it seems to go through regen more often.

We've got an 08 F550 with a service box at work. The truck weighs in right about 13k. While driving it I have never seen higher than 8mpg, and when towing its down around 5-6mpg. Someone reported they saw 10mpg for a little while on this truck, but that was only once. This truck also does not have the deeper gear option on it. Your boss is going to hate fueling that pig. I still can't see why anyone would buy anything that big and even give two shits about fuel economy.

You want mileage your gonna have to get it tuned and straight piped. Most of those guys that do the with 250's and 350's are actually getting close to 20 or more mpg When driving conservatively.

False. Most of those guys are full of shit. You can get 20 in one of these things driving down from Dusy but that's about it. I've found most mileage claims to be false.

Mine is a 2010, from what I've read I seem to be getting better fuel economy than people with '08 or '09. It's not as good as I'd like but it only has 8500 km on it yet so it's not even broken in. City mileage sucks but that may be because I push the pedal hard vs using cruise most of the time on the highway.

I drive an 08 f450 with the 6.4 at work and if I drive it like a grandma I can see 11 MPG. Most of the time it gets 8 around town. This truck is a flatbed dualie and it is a single cab. This truck does have a lot of power though. And I do like how the transmissions are controlled for towing. They seem to up shift and down shift more intelligently than the older trucks.

My 01 Dodge 5.9 24V stock with 4.11 gears was getting 21 MPG on the freeway at 60 MPH. With a new 4 inch exhaust and an edge I can pull around 22 to 23 at the same speed. Move it up to 70 and it goes down to around 19 to 20. This is flat ground with a cunt hair of a headwind. If I turn my tuner up I can see somewhere around 330 HP and 700 to 750 ft lbs of torque at 33 lbs of boost. These are rough numbers but I think they are feasible.

I don't know how this stacks up against a newer ford but it can't be far off.

:flipoff2: I said rough numbers. and you just had to quote me on the highest foot lb figure didn't you. :flipoff2: I have seen similar dyno sheets with similar numbers. I did overstate it a little bit. It should be about 330 to 350 Hp at around 700 to 750 ft lbs. And yes on a 24 valve.

Why the hell were you driving 60 on the freeway Matt? I think the best I ever got in the F-250 was 17 mpg but that was being stuck on highway 80 doing around 45-60 for 3 hours. Otherwise I would be lucky to see that. Believe it or not, slapping 37s on this thing didn't affect the mileage noticeably.

The newer Ford does not get in the 20 mpg range no matter what you do to it. Max claims similar numbers in his '05 Dodge, but he failed Algebra twice so I tend not to believe him. I'm guessing he has the odometer set to Metric.

the best i ever got with my 08 f250 6.4 was 17mpg, and anymore towing my sammy w/trailer i only get 10 to 12 at best! the sammy trailer combo only weighs 5000lbs. only has 23k, and have been told it will get better as the engine racks up the miles?

haha thats pretty good Jeff. I wouldn't doubt that it is set to metric. I don't know a whole lot about the mileage the new 6.7's get but I would think that it is half decent.

I have taken a couple drives up to my folks house in Minden, NV and I have the real time MPG display in my truck so that is the figure I go off of. I decided to play with it a couple times and see what kind of mileage I could get at different speeds. I only have 33 x 11.50's on my truck so they are relatively stock size and with 4.10s I run pretty high in my RPM range cruising on the freeway.

You get really good mileage in your truck Jeff. The 08 ford I drive at work has never gotten that kind of mileage according to the computer no matter how I drive it. It might be a little heavier than your truck and have lower gearing though. It tops out at like 83 mph.

The 37's once you get up to speed might be keeping your RPM's in a better range for the speed you go on the freeway and increasing your MPG? Just an idea because I don't think the height or weight of those tires would bother a diesel at freeway speeds.

Wow....Relying on that dash huh.....Get to hand figuring and watch em drop.
Guy that tows with us lost about 2-3mpg hand calculated.

If you still say that after hand calculating I think you got the EPA truck they base those damn lying ass stickers on.

11MPG towing 7k at 65-70mph in my 03 c/c Dmax w/edge juice w/att on 2 tow mode

16 mpg in highway egging around 65-70 with edge on 3 drive mode set on middle between responsive/economy.

Thirsty whore but I dont let much go past unless they got their BOOBs out.

I don't think there is much he can do at this point with an F-550 dump truck on 22.5's to get better mileage. Maybe get some more fuel holding capacity on that thing so he can at least get better range...then it might feel like he's getting better mileage...
