: w250 cummins front lift.
JBradley500 01-30-2010, 08:01 PM I have a stock 92 w250 with a Cummins. It has new 33" tires on it and they fit but the front sits too low. The front has 1.5" less clearance than the rear. Skyjacker sells 1" and 2" and 4" lifts but i dont know which one will get it to sit level. Anyone have experience with these springs? Summit "requires" and add-a-leaf with their front leafs, why?
This is how it sits.

Highrolleres 01-30-2010, 08:25 PM just buy 2 new leafs the old leafs are worn.
Bajabomber87 01-30-2010, 09:07 PM How much are each of those lifts?
I leveled out a W250 cummins by taking the spring packs to a black smith (fab shop) and having them rearch and/or add leafs to the pack. Only cost $200.
Hammered Scout 01-30-2010, 09:41 PM I was gonna post this Q up too...Kinda. I want to lift te front of my new CDT W250 but with readily available springs ..I.E. Chevy springs. Your front leaf springs measure about 48" eye bolt to eye bolt loaded and and flat with the center bolt at center(24")middle.
Dodge W250 springs are 2.5" wide.. same as a Chevy spring. So I'm thinking a Chevy 52" front spring will fit with a longer shackle. Just thinking... please add to this idea.
Highrolleres 01-30-2010, 10:03 PM you can build your own leaf packs with the proper main leaf but its time consuming.just buy new ones for $129 each

A Chevy 52" front spring is actually a stock K5 Blazer rear spring 2.5 inches wide.
Stock Chevy front springs are about 47/48 inches long and 3 inches wide.
Chevy fronts will not work on the front of a Dodge, since the Dodge front spring pads are not wide enough.
The stock prings on those have a negative arch.
Get them re-arched with a positive arch and add a leaf the full lenght of the main to keep the arch.
I added 2 leafs on each side for the plow.

Elwenil 01-31-2010, 09:38 AM Weak front springs on a Dodge W series are very common. Note the negative arch:

Just get stock replacements unless you are wanting to lift the entire truck. If you put lift springs on the front, it is going to lift it over the stock ride height, you just need to get back to the stock ride height.
JBradley500 01-31-2010, 10:45 AM I was thinking that too. Where would i find stock replacements? I just want a truck that doesnt sit like a top fuel drag car. Just throw some stock replacements and an add-a-leaf at it sound good?
wheelerfreak 01-31-2010, 06:25 PM I plan on just going with the 2" skyjackers on my '93 CTD. I thought about rearching the stockers, but my main leaf is worn were the 2nd leaf has been rubbing into it. Mine has only about a 1/16" groove worn into it, but I've seen two that were worn half way through the main leaf:eek: Check yours out for that wear, I've heard it is faily common.
I wouldn't think the Chevy leafs would work due to the weight difference of the CTD and the chevy engine:confused:
crashnzuk 02-01-2010, 12:40 AM Here is a pic of mine with the Cummins spec Skyjacker 2" front spring and the 6" rear spring with an extra inch bolted to the pack. Tires are 265/75/16s. We have a sagged out stocker at work, and I think mine is about 3" higher measured at the top of the wheel opening if memory serves.

That's a 6" lift rear spring? Or did you get rid of the factory block and use 6" lift springs?
crashnzuk 02-01-2010, 09:44 AM 10-4, 6" spring and no block. The 1" I added was with 3 leaves per side cut to 6" and bolted into the pack at the bottom.

My '93 W350 sits just like the blue one, although higher @ both ends. I chose the Skycrapper 2" lift springs, shoulda went w/ the 4" one's. New springs & shocks will NOT change the harsh ride. I started w/ new factory bushing$$$ in the old springs, then when that still sucked, I thought brand new springs would be heaven :shaking: There's a reason they went coils in '94......
I bet the summit one's are for gassers & they tell you to add a leaf cuz they don't make them for diesels. I have overload leaf packs in the rear of mine, so that may throw off the balance & if you compare yours' to mine. You may be fine w/ the 2" one's, dunno.....
I'll sell you my old stock one's cheap if you wanna give those a try.
BNorth 02-01-2010, 07:23 PM Mine are the stock main leaf with chevy 1-ton leafs under it. It has a positive arc and is about 2" higher than stock. My truck doesn't quite sit level but it is very close.
This is on 235/85R16's. It's a bit deceiving since I'm missing the rear fender trim.

How's that holding up for you and under what use? I ask because I've heard that the aftermarket rear lift springs don't hold up well when used hard and I regularly haul 2k or so in the bed of my truck. I don't want springs that crap out right away and am not too concerned about the ride, it is a work truck after all.
sdubfid 02-01-2010, 08:46 PM I was wondering if anyone has swapped in longer springs front or rear to improve the ride on their w250? Maybe some 63" chevy springs in the rear would improve the ride quite a bit?
How about shackle reversals, will these improve the ride or just give added lift?

Working out just fine. I don't really use the truck much unless I'm towing my Jeep, hauling around my camper, or both. I have had them on for about 4 years and have put about 40k miles on them including a trip to Alaska with the camper on. Those roads in northern Canada are a real test, and they came through withou issue. They always come right back to ride height when I remove the camper. If you want to use them without bags, you want the front a bit lower like factory so it sits level when loaded. The rear drops about 2 1/2" with the camper on and trailer hooked up. Over-all, I've been happy with the springs.
