Have the rear end of my 40 up on jack stands, cranked the engine to show my buddy that it does actually run, looked back and noticed the tires turning.

Hmmm, isn't it in neutral? Yeah, it was.
What the hell is going on?

My guess is if you grab the Drive shaft, you'll be able to stop it. Mine did this after I rebuilt the t-case, and everything was tight. I would guess again that the spinning input shaft moves enough oil around to turn the gears? Guessing:rolleyes:

Yep should just be the gear oil that is turning the gears. Dont grab your driveshaft though, just trust us.

Wait, I think I'm gonna side with all the noobs in this particular thread...One asked a decent question that probably hasn't been asked in years, another responded with a good answer, yet another responded with a little clarification, the second one made a decent joke...

Looks like this WAS a productive thread! :flipoff2:

Thanks for the answer and thanks for the defense

Only reason I asked here is because there's the biggest group of knowledgeable people here.

I'll try to come up with better questions in teh future, like... what's the pro's and cons of SOA vs. 4" SUA lift???
:D

Or not...

what's the pro's and cons of SOA vs. 4" SUA lift???

you will find alot of info in the search on this one, but real quick,
a big pro is softer ride and more flex than 4" SUA.
a big con is the SOA costs alot more unless you can do it yourself.

Please let me clarify, I was speeking about the Noob that wanted to "Grab" the driveline. The original question was a good one, thats what we're all hear for is to learn and lend our knowledge to others. But common sense and safety must come into play. It would be alot less fun to go wheelin with one arm cause you grabbed a spinning driveline, just the torque from the centrifical force of the tires spinning could cause you harm.
There's enough Darvin award winners in the world....:flipoff2:

I should quite while ahead here, but being a fawkin noob, I'm a gluten.

There was a huge thread awhile back about stupid things we've all done in the past. Grabbing the drive shaft when I was 100% sure it was in neutral was one of those stupid things. I had oily gloves on, so it kept spinning, but the shock of it not just stopping as I expected it to scared me so bad, I jerked my head back and did my best to self inflict a concussion!:D

Your clutch may be dragging. Loosen up the throw ou bearing via the clutch slave rod.

It will eventually clearance itself, but at the cost of some valuable clutch!
