: New SPOA setup with 44044's
iscout62 10-05-2002, 08:53 PM I 86'ed the old stuff, and went to larger springs. Pics of the installed hydroboost are in here too. Oh yeah, there is some dana 18/20 stuff in there too..

iscout62 10-05-2002, 11:12 PM Whatta you think? Comments?
jdjanda 10-06-2002, 12:09 AM Looking good, when's that beetch going to be on the trail?
iscout62 10-06-2002, 12:13 AM Ugh, if I get the axle mounted tomorrow then I can drop the engine/tranny/xfercase in for final x-member measurements. The x-member is a weld in unit, I don't want to phuck it up rushing it. I'm hoping to get this bastard started (running) in the next couple of weeks.
The tires have to go tho.. :)
Chief yelling alot 10-06-2002, 12:18 AM that is saweet
dam thats looking real good
Rock Tractor 10-06-2002, 01:21 AM Are you gonna turn those knuckles?
iscout62 10-06-2002, 01:47 AM Not right away, I'm lining up a waggy axle for later this month. This one is a 76 Scout 44, no chango for now. I need the axle mounted to install the drivetrain. *heh, don't want to have it drop on me* :)
scoutver5.7 10-06-2002, 08:37 AM I REALLY like the double spring setup on the passenger side!
Ya got a 400 lb girlfriend or sumtin'?:D :D :D
iscout62 10-06-2002, 10:33 AM I was sitting here wondering what you were talking about for a couple minutes! Doh, you are looking at the old springs, with the Toyota spring sitting on the knuckle!
I forgot that the old pics are still over there!
Rock Tractor 10-06-2002, 07:45 PM Andersons pick a part was half price weekend. I got some waggy flat top knuckles for $25.

Looks like someone will be running hi-steer soon ;)
Rock Tractor 10-06-2002, 08:36 PM Hopefully by the end of the week:D
iscout62 10-07-2002, 07:04 PM Is that place a good sized yard? chances of finding them in Sacto are slim to none...
Rock Tractor 10-08-2002, 02:24 AM It's not really that big. They don't have alot of fresh stuff there.
iscout62 10-12-2002, 10:17 PM Got the drivetrain put in tonight. I was hoping the front springs would settle a bit, but they didn't. Mabye a half inch, but nothing more than that. ScoutDude still has me beat in the elevation department by about 4 inches.. (evil-grin) not for long!
Pics on the way.
What do the SOA people do for the centerpin on the lefthand ground down side of the 44 center housing? I was thinking about drilling a hole into the iron for the pin, but is there some other alternative, like using another springpad cut down to size?
:D

Start whackin'!:flipoff2: :flipoff2:
Scoutaholic 10-13-2002, 10:23 AM I didn't take time to look at all the pics but the ones I saw look good. On the rear mounts / front springs- won't that tube steel frame spreader get in the way? Gona be right there whenever you need to do trans work and the exhaust is going to be a challenge.
iscout62 10-13-2002, 08:16 PM Well, I whacked it off with the torch yesterday, but it would've worked with about .5" to spare. The member would've been just below the sm420 transmission at it's lowest point. I'll get some pics from the underside tomorrow when I get the Mavica back from the office.
I think that I'll replace the x'member with something removable but now it will attach to the underside of the box tube. Doing that will give me a place to mount the clutch hydraulics and a nice mount (beefy) for anything that needs to be down there like lights and such crap. :)
Otherwise the transplant went well. It's dead nuts centered in the engine compartment, placed just about exactly where the IH V-8 would've been had they put one in my 62. :) I've got 2 inches between the driver side valve cover and the protruding firewall.
The only downside to the swap is that I will need to cut a hole in the firewall for the transmission gear shifter, and a notch for the dana-20 selector. I didn't want to cut a compound angle above the accel pedal, so the trade-off was a hole in the angled firewall, for the soon to be heated and modified GM transmission shifting rod.
So, what gives on the perch? Anyone have a innovative idea that I can use?
Thx!
;)

Rectangular tubing, a drill press and a hole saw! Get the one on the housing as low as possible and then make the other side the same height.

engine folder. The res of the pictures is MUCH higher than the old pics. I figured out how to use the camera. Doh!
The springs didn't settle nearly as much as I thought they would. I guess that's a good thing for now. Makes me consider running something larger than 35's now.
L8r.
;)
Rock Tractor 10-16-2002, 11:01 PM Once you have hit the trail a couple of times the springs will settle. Lookin good.
iscout62 10-16-2002, 11:05 PM I hope so. Those springs are hand-me-downs that didn't seem to settle much from their stock height. Ugh, I guess I need to mash the tar out of them.
:)
