: One-a-month for 2010!
Chili Palmer 02-01-2010, 10:32 PM I'm just a new guy from Idaho and I know I can't compete with others on this forum in how much they help the sport of offroading and I know most (if not all) of you already belong to at least one club, association, etc so I'm just trying to do what I can by drawing attention to these associations, etc. that help us. I've come up with a little challenge of sorts...One-a-month for 2010. I've posted this on the many forums I belong to and if I can get just 1 person to follow that's enough for me.
Here's cut and paste...
I'm generally not a New Years resolution guy but this year I've decided to promote the sport of offroading the best way I can - by joining a club, organization, etc. I've actually been thinking about this for quite a while and after a few conversations with some people I know I decided I'd better join a few clubs, etc. and after giving it some more thought I came up with this little challenge....
I'm going to join 1 offroad club, association, organization, etc. per month, for 2010! That's 12 total associations!
I know I could just join 12 right off the bat but I figured doing it this way may bring more attention to it, keep me out of trouble with the better half, make the excitement last all year(!) and hopefully get more people to follow along...
So my challenge is - who's going to keep up? Obviously we're a little late for January but that's ok, if you want to join two in February that's ok with me, or if you joined one in the last two months that's ok also.
I'll keep a running tab of the clubs I join below.
January: Blue Ribbon Coalition!
February: Idaho 4x4 Association (I'm from Idaho - forms are filled out, will hand them in when I get back in town)
March: North American XJ Association - NAXJA
April: The United Four Wheel Drive Associations
I'm also going to post this on all the forums I belong to and put some links in my signature...
So who's going to keep up...

Wow, great idea. Dont think I could keep up with that pace, Am already a BRC life member and a member of CA4WDC, but I decided I would at least join one more to start.
Sent in my new membership today for PLP, Public Lands for the People

Thanks and glad I could get one more person to join something new this year! We'll see how it turns out in the end!
Thanks twice actually - I had never heard of Public Lands for the People. I briefly checked out their page and they look pretty cool. I'm going to put them on my list. This makes me realize I need a place to list all the agencies that come up during this - whether I join them or not.

Great to hear Rick, I know PLP can definately use some support.
an update...
Next week we have 2 hearings in Sacramento, on the 22nd of Feb 2010 we are in Federal court on our Eldorado Travel Mangement Plan Complaint to stop forest road closures. On Feb 25, 2010 we are again in Sacramento for another hearing on the Federal Lawsuit against the Ca. Dept. of Fish and game and the state California on SB 670, the Bill which put the moratorium on suction dredge mining in the state of California. The PLP attorney and I will be at both hearings, hope to see some of you there.
PLP and I would like to thank all of the people who have supported us through all of these attacks on suction dredge mining in the state of California. We have a lot on our plate and I would hope that all of you continue your financial support. If you feel that you can send just a couple of dollars donation to PLP so we can continue these cases, I can assure you that it is needed and will be much appreciated. we need to revitalise our legal fund
Thank You
Jerry
Jeepndel 02-16-2010, 07:47 PM Some organizations/newsletters are free (and still count), like ARRA, or NOHVCC.
Check out a whole list of national groups, some of which are free, here on SaveMyTrails.com:

Great idea.
Oh, heck if you're already a member, you can drop a $10 or $20 towards a group and STILL in my book, get counted in on this game.

mannysouza 02-16-2010, 09:09 PM First time I read this but I joined Cal4wd and BRC the other night. The sport needs money to keep it going. I'm scared that all my toys will only be worth their weight in metal.
This is a great idea!
navy-jeepster 02-16-2010, 09:11 PM Love the idea.
Signed up today to be a life member of BRC.

Chili Palmer 02-16-2010, 11:05 PM Thanks for the interest gentlemen and welcome Del; that's an excellent point about simply donating money and thanks for the link.
I'll add that I'm working on a website so stay tuned...
Jeepndel 02-17-2010, 08:50 AM Cal4 folks don't forget that you can join (or EXTEND) in BOTH Cal4 and BlueRibbon Coalition this month for a discounted joint deal price -- called the Co-0p program. It's a sweet deal AND you get a $25 Gift Card from 4Wheel Parts in the process. Big money saver.

mannysouza 02-19-2010, 07:20 AM I don't shop at 4wheelparts. I rather give the extra dollars to the cause than 4wheelparts.
What is another good place to join?
Chili Palmer 02-19-2010, 09:32 AM Tread Lightly (http://www.treadlightly.org) is another good one or how about http://www.nora-usa.com/.
Or either of the ones Del posted above.
Thanks for the interest!
Chili Palmer 04-14-2010, 11:20 PM Quick update...
March I joined NAXJA - http://www.naxja.org

WLDWUN 04-22-2010, 11:26 AM I said I wouldnt be able to keep up with the one a month. but i will do my best to keep it going.
Use to be a NRA memebr many years ago, but let that drop.
last weekend I went out on a cleanup in our local forest and worked with a group from the local gun club NRA PLINK (Please Leave It Nra Klean)
http://www.eldoradorodandgun.com/plink.htm
they have spent almost 20 years cleaning up areas in the forest.
So today I sent in a 3 year membership to NRA, soley becuae of what the local group does to help retain acess to our forest by cleaning up after others that are less considerate
Chili Palmer 04-23-2010, 08:52 AM That's awesome. Obviously I've been talking about off-road stuff but the NRA works for me and reminded me I should join them someday too!
