I HAVE A TH400 TO A 205...........THE REAR OF THE 400 HAS A CIRCULAR PATTURN 6-8 HOLES......THESE HOLES ARE THREADED..........THERE IS A ROUND ADAPTER THAT BOLTS TO THE 400..ABOUT 1" THICK WITH COUNTERSUNK ALLENS. THIS ADAPTER HAS 4 HOLES THREADED ALSO.THE 205 ADAPTER BOLTS TO THE RING WITH THE 4 BOLTS.THE 205 SIDE OF THE LAST ADAPTER.........IS THE SAME OVAL LOOKING PATTURN I HAVE IN MY CRUZAH 465 TO A 205..........
SO MY QUESTION IS DO ALL 400 TO 205'S HAS THESE TWO ADAPTERS BOLTING THE TOGETHER..I WAS TOLD THIS 205 IS/WAS MATED TO A TH350:confused: NOW USING THE ADAPTED TO MATE IT TO THE 400......WHAT DO I GOT????

Never seen that one before. 400 to 205 uses one adapter. a 205 for a 400 uses a 32 spline input gear and a larger bearing than a 350-205. is that ring for indexing the TC

You answered your own question...you have an adapter that makes the TH400 into a TH350 bolt pattern and a TH350 to 205 adapter. You need to make sure your spline count between the 400 and 205 are the same. You may have a 27-spline TH400 out of a car and a 27-spline 205 that came off a TH350.

Here is the differences:
205 - Has a figure 8 pattern. If setup for a SM465 then it is a male 10 spline input shaft. If auto, (both 350 and 400) it is a female input shaft.
TH400 - 6 bolt output flange. If it is out of a car, then there is an extension bolted onto the end. Simple remove the extension and it will bolt to the 205. You may have to change your Th400 output though :flipoff2:
TH350 - 4 bolt output flange. Same deal. Car has an extension bolted onto the back. Remove it and it is ready to bolt to a transfer case,,,, again, after you get your output shafts straightened out.
NOW, it sounds like you have a TH350 adapter, (4 bolt flange) to a TH400. This spaces you back a little bit and requires a longer output shaft to get full engagement into the transfercase.
So is this a aftermarket peice if so who makes it?

Also dont forget that there is two different style factory 400-205 set ups the older one with the hourglass(figure 8) on transfer case side and the newer one that is round similar to like dana 300s and an atlas and so forth . My experience is the older one is more versatile and usable for my usage mostly because you can machine your case or get a custom bearing and simply use the same 205 you already have. But as some one mentioned you have the 400-350 adapter plate with a factory 350 adapter and case. And you have the 27 spline output to which is normally refered to as the th375 not to make things more confusing, cause it basically means 400 case and guts with a 350 resembling output
