I found a deal on some tube for Tie rods and drag links, but there is a catch.

The I.D. is .834 and I will need to tap them for 7/8-18. The drill size for 7/8-18 tap is .8281 for a difference of .0059. The tube is 4130. Do you think it will fail?

Well that works out to about .003 per side. I would guess there is that much slop regardless. I say go fer it!

The tube we use to tap tierods 7/8-18 is 0.812 ID by the spec. A little high on the tap load side of things, but very tappable. (it's actually the specified drill size for 7/8-14). Experience is that at 27/32 (0.84375) tap drill size, 7/8-18 is a little loose--enough to where it's probably not strong enough. Best-guess is that it's probably good enough, as long as you have plenty of thread engagement.
