how do you tell if the carrier is 3.73 and lower or 4.10 and higher

if you have one of each the 3.73 will have the ring gear mounting surface further away from the pinion and the 4.10 & up will have the surface closer to the pinion.

The carrriers I have in the shop the carrier up to 3.73 has a 31434 cast into it. The carrier for the higher #'s have the number 31442 cast into them. I don't know if this holds true for all years and all 44's.

left is a 3.73 carrier, right is a 4.09, I had the same question last year, and someone on teh ORC bbs was nice enough to post this pic for me to ID mine!

mine didnt have the nuimbers on it, I think only actual spicer carriers do , who knows, I trust the above method.
