First off, I did search. I found lots of DD TJs but none that are stock. With that being said I begin. I know a lot of you DD your modified TJs, but I'm looking at a fun DD and not a wheeler, I have a 93 YJ as my wheeler. I'm currently drive a 2002 Tacoma and I'm looking at maybe trading it for a TJ. My biggest issue in the interstate. Going to and from college several hours away from home. My question is what do you guys who DD your stock TJs think? I know the 6cyl is capable of 70mph stock or modified, but what about the 4cyl? I know the 4cyl has a problem doing 70 with 33s or 35s, but what about some little stock 30s? No 4cyl auto, to gutless. Sorry for the long winded question, I'm just wanting to convert my self to 100% Jeep. :D

Thanks,

-Joe

how much money you got for gas?

DD a cheap 4cyl car with a 5spd. Then when you get in your jeep it feels all that much better.

I DD my '04 TJ, with the crappy 2.4L, and when I drive home from Lima, OH to Grand Rapids, MI, it's a 225 mile drive, from driveway to driveway, I make it with about 2 gallons left to spare in my tank. I'm honestly not sure what size tank I have though.

I have 31's and 4.10 gears

My dad has a beater YJ with the 4cyl and the 5 speed on 31's and 4.10's and its no problem at all to drive around town, goes 60-70 just fine with no trouble. More peppy and definitely better on gas than my L6 ZJ with stock 3.55s and 33's:barf:..i haven't driven it longer than 30 minutes but if its as good if not better than my ZJ in terms of power for 30min id assume it would be for longer.

..Oh and first post. Hi yall

My current gas mileage is 17-18 in my Tacoma. My brother has a TJ and so does a good friend of mine and my brother gets 13mpg (97, 4.0, 32s, 3.07s) and my friend gets 18mpg (98, 4.0, 30s, 3.07s) so I assume gas mileage will be about the same if I stick to the 30s.
Do you think the 4cyl will get better mileage than the 4.0 if I leave it on 30s?

It's about the same until there's any kind of load on the engine, then it's worse.

I'd go with the 4.0L. In all honesty, it doesn't get that bad of gas mileage on the highway. When mine was stock I would get 250-300 miles out of a tank on the highway (depending on how windy it was). Stick around 70-80mph and you will get 17-19mpg stock.

I remember when I was in a Jeep dealership around the time I bought mine and the showroom Jeep had a sticker on it saying: "Autobaun tested 150mph". Germans like to drive their stuff fast I guess.
