: tested jeep, broke new driveshaft doh!!!
Dust Puppy 10-06-2002, 06:25 PM well i finnaly got the jeep together and took it up to paragon to see how it ran. i was running drumstick and i ended up breaking a rear shock. ended up being all flexed up pretty bad. we got the shock fixed and when we went to move the jeep to get everthing back together the cv blew. i ended up runnin the jeep home in front wheel drive... and with a spool thats not easy to do. i guess ill have to call jess and order another shaft :( it sucks. i dont know what the warantee is on those if any but i know its my fault.
and just to clarify this was the first test run and the shocks were temp. and there were no limiting straps and there are alot of other issues that im still working on.
here are a couple pics for those that care :flipoff2:

Keith Strong 10-06-2002, 06:36 PM Ummmmmm, you dropped your coil :flipoff2: ;)
SCOTTS_4X 10-06-2002, 06:36 PM looks good. I did that a few months ago. went out and tried to play with some jeeps trying to climb a stepped bank. anyways I tore an axletube out of my 12bolt and it took my 4day old driveline with it. I drove it 40 miles home in front wheel. 25miles an hour for 40 miles SUCKED.

toojeeper 10-06-2002, 07:47 PM Good job Moron. It amazes me that you built that and didn't even think about having to much travel to drop a coil out also. But hey just bungee that coil so it won't fall out again like BEAST40.:flipoff2: Hope everything works out.
DozerDan 10-06-2002, 08:27 PM wow nice, are you really that dumb naturally or do you work at it...
This was his test run to decide what shocks and limiting set up to run. he knew it was not ideal and was not on a hard trail.
yeah hes a moron but only his friends are allowed to call him that. right fawker :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :D :D
anyway get it fixed (agian) and come out and really play.
B.A.R.K 10-06-2002, 08:43 PM just a wee-bit of rear steer huh, looks good , a buddy of mine found the perfect way to keep you coils in, get a boat roller from your local marine supply store, cut it in half, use it to bolt your spring in place and you have a bumpstop that doubles as a limiting strap and keeps you spring centered
Monkeyboy 10-06-2002, 09:13 PM Looks like you turned on your rear steer and well....
It's the wrong kind of rear steer:flipoff2:
Monkeyboy 10-06-2002, 10:02 PM I guess them shocks didn't work out to well as limiting straps:flipoff2:
Whaley Enterprises 10-07-2002, 05:08 AM so tell us how long it took to get back to delaware?? bet u wont go wheelin on test run again... peace:)
bigdude 10-07-2002, 05:23 AM Is something besides the shock broken in the last pic or do your links really afford that rear steer??? Look at the rear diff in the first pic  No wonder that driveshaft let go.
onsafari 10-07-2002, 05:23 AM I didn't think that thing had 4 wheel steering :flipoff2:
Oxjockey 10-07-2002, 05:46 AM I guess with all that paint, you couldn't afford limiting straps? :flipoff2:
Bryan
Sundowner 10-07-2002, 06:03 AM I seem to recall at least 2 discussions on eliminating the rear trac bar with trig'd control arms. I'd go back and read(re-read?) both.:D

:flipoff2: If you would keep up, I have moved away from the bungee strap and have started using a tricked out rope system.

Sundowner 10-07-2002, 06:26 AM Huh, he does not have a trac-bar
I know this, and if he had done it properly, his axle would still be under the jeep...:flipoff2:

What did he do wrong other than not using some good quality rope for a limiting strap (sorry Beast had toss that one in) :p
Sundowner 10-07-2002, 07:04 AM the axle does not appear to be located squarely under the chassis.
limit straps don't control that, neither dothe springs.
and I gotta ask, why would you go 100 miles out of your way to Paragon when an RTI ramp or a forklift would have pointed out out all the above problems in 2 seconds?
FLEXYSAMMY 10-07-2002, 07:33 AM I think some one is holding out on all of the damage!!!! Come on DP tell us the WHOLE story!!!!!! :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2:
DozerDan 10-07-2002, 09:36 AM he also broke a control arm bolt...

OH NO his rear links allow for rear steer this jeep will never work on the trail  ..... Oh wait it just has some rear steer and will work fine on the trail so SHUT YOUR TRAP :flipoff2:
Also if you guys could read (yes I realize some of you are just joking) it was a test and he realizes it needs limiting straps and I wouldnt expect the shocks to break so quickly either. Every one should take this as the reason why not to use shocks as limiting straps, or bumpstops for that matter!
