i am looking to buy an early 90's (pre vortec) chevy or gmc 2500 3/4 ton. my question is , is this going to be a good choice for a rig to tow an 18' trailer with a full bodied 4runner(4800lbs) on it? pretty much what i am trying to say is that i am a poor college kid with $5000 to buy a daily driver/tow rig and i am going to need something that will be reliable and able to tow, is this a good choice? who tows with these? TIA Zach

There are two different versions of the "2500". Get the 8,600 GVWR version (8 lug wheels instead of 6 lug). Much better setup. You won't have a ton of power while towing with the TBI 350, but it's more than adequate for the job.

Zach,

Before I bought my Dodge, I was pulling my FJ40 (heavy) with an old ragged out/farm truck '91 GMC LWB. It handled the car hauler and 40 fine. It was no Cummins or Powerstroke, but it was fine.

Cheers,

I had a 79 K-20 HD w/350/TH400/4.11 and towed a 18 ft w/ CJ-5. Handling was fine. For flat land is was fine but really, really struggled in the mountains. If you have any mountains I'd recommend a 454.
