I'm glad to hear about the high miles. I just bought a 2001 w/65k on it. So it should last longer than I will own it. I normaly only keep a truck 1-2 yrs then I want something different.

My 96's got 215,000 and still runs like new. I've seen one with 750,000 and one with 600,000. I'll probably keep mine for another 215,000.

I wonder how many problems that truck has had. Wouldnt be suprised if everything was rebuilt except the engine.

I work on a fleet of cummins..We just replace our first one in a stright truck with 760,000 K!This was in a stright truck that was pretty much full throttle from pdx to medford everyday..You know drivers arnt easy on company trucks...It ended up with a cracked piston around the rings and started blowing oil out the breather..Not bad in my book...My 93 12v is pushing 180K and still runs like new..

1.2 millon miles. The turbo diesel registery had a write up on the truck including failed parts, original engine no rebiuld though. I think it went through 5 nv4500 transmissions. The owner delievers campers for a living and has several trucks. The truck just sits on the lot because the power is gone but it still runs! Brian

My Uncles had a '90 CTD that has just under 700k, probably more by now. It's a 2wd 1ton dually that he uses on his ranch hauling hay, horses, etc. It looks like shiat but still runs fine. Not positive but I beleive he has gone through 2 Getrag manual trannies, and thats it. My '93 has 170k and I'm still running the original auto tranny:flipoff2: .. It does need a rebuild badly though.

I rememeber reading (somewhere) that CTD's are good till 300,000 miles. then stuff gradually starts to go, but 300,000 is a minimum.

There was a write-up in the paper in Dayton, Ohio, about a local guy who had just hit 990,000 on his '95 CTD (no rebuilds).

My 99 I just picked up has 75K on it. A co worker of mine I just gave a ride to was aghast "wow, that's alot of miles on a diesel!"

With the miles I'll put on it, I figure I'm good to go for at least 5 years without any major rebuilds... or ANY for that matter. :D :D :D

1 million miles. Buddy of mine owns a Jeep dismantler. He buys parts from a guy who runs a gooseneck behind a 94 Cummins who picks up parts from Minnesota to Nor Cal. It just rolled over 1 million last summer. Still running, still hauling a gooseneck. :D

My neighbor works at Cummins and he has seen lots of 400,000 and 500,000+ ones. That is usually when they are tired enough the owners want it freshened up for more power. But he said very few of them came in broken, just tired. :D

i have 206k on my present truck, and it has been bumped up pretty good power wise. i will see how long it will last at 350plus hp and 850+ torque. i did have to replce the tranny and clutch at 200k. i have seen 6 trucks with 500k plus on them and they all ran good. a couple really looked like shit but ran good. mike

I know of 3 with over 350,000 miles on them. two are the 1st gen trucks and the other is my little bros. Farmtruck/hotstock truck. Ive heard of acouple more that have over 300,000 on them. But most are hotshot or highway miles on them. Most have to have something refreshined up on them at 300,000 mileage range.

its nothing i can verify, but a friend of mine has a story he likes to tell about a little old man he came across in a 1st gen truck that had 1 million,6 hundred something thousand miles.

the odo quit working on my 92 at 275k,and my 96 has 249k. no where near 1 million, but they both still run great. the 96 has had a tranny and injection pump rebuild, the 92 as far as i know is still bone stock with no major overhauls.

A guy I know had ~475k miles on his '96 2500 last I talked to him. It has been about a year since then, and knowing the way he drives I'm sure he has over 500k by now.

I spoke with a delivery driver for a local outfit that has a couple of 1st generation CTD trucks. Both of their trucks have ~750k miles on them.

My personal '95 CTD has 315k and counting. This truck has been to hell and back. I swear it has had more air time than the General Lee judging by how bent the front bumpstops are. It still runs good though...

Back in '01 while still living in Las Vegas, the Dodge dealer in Henderson (suburb of Vegas) had a 2wd truck on display in their show room that a customer had driven for one million miles - all original. He drove it daily to work at a govt. facility north of Vegas.

I heard of a truck that was owned by 2 older ladies that bought and sold travel trailers, and hotshotted them as well, it was a 95 or 96 4wd with 6 spd swapped in, the truck was bought and sold by this guy, it showed 160xxx, but he knew for a fact that it had rolled over.

The only thing wrong with a cummins is the shitty ass Dodge truck wrapped around it. I bet all these high milage trucks run awsome but the truck itself is in need of alot of work. Short sub on here has a 92 with over 300K on it, runs awsome, but the truck needs a little TLC.

My 99 looks really good still. The head unit was broken (the LCD was broken) and the paint has a slight fade to it and the normal road chips, etc, but otherwise its in really good shape. The center console has some wear on the top but that is wear and tear, not a "failure" of any type.

Same with anything, take care of it and it will last a long time. Abuse it or neglect it and it will fall apart on you

The reson I say this is because I owned an 03 cummins, fully loaded.

The leather was junk, the seats were like sitting on plywood, the a/c vents would dance on rough roads (which didn't matter because the a/c would pick and choose when it worked). When you touched the panels on the driver and passenger side doors, the sections with the window switches they would move about 1/2 an inch. I know I'm being picky, but I paid alot of money for that truck, took good care of it and sold it a 60k.

The cummins will always be king of the diesels, but the quality of the truck I wasn't happy with.

Now if they could put a cummins and an allison in a ford super duty and it rode like a chevy I'd be in heaven.

I am up to 268K, been at 440hp for the last 140k. If I could just get a NV4500to last longer, I have gone through one countershaft (two teeth off of 3rd gear) and fifth gear (countershaft and mainshaft 5th gears = no more teeth). 97-12valve

a 15 year old truck with 750,00 miles would have to travel 1000 miles per week (average) for every week of that 15 years with no breaks...

a 10 year old truck with 750k would need to average almost 1500 miles per week for ten years straight.....not only is that pretty tough to do physically, but I doubt that many people are travelling that kind of mileage for 10 or 15 years straight on the same truck.... certainly not on local deliveries or a farm truck or service truck..

i know Cummins makes a great motor and have seen several in the 200-300k mile range. The super high mileage ones i have not seen personally and must wonder a little bit how someone puts that many miles on a truck..

any body got pics and service records for a high miler..?

You have to remember that you're talking about light duty trucks here. Furthermore, I've seen plenty of POS Fords and Chevys too, so IMHO it is unfair to call out Dodge as being any shittier than the rest.

My personal truck has been beaten to death. It still runs good and considering how hard it has been beaten and the fact that I live in an area where rust will easily claim a vehicle in 10-15 years, I'd say that Dodge built a pretty durable truck.

Considering that my buddy who is a truck driver will put on somewhere between 3-4k miles per week, I don't think the claims are necessarily unreasonable. The trucks I mentioned earlier with 750k on them were longer haul delivery trucks, so I have no reason not to believe that the mileage claim was accurate. They were falling apart due to vibration but they still were reasonable shape considering the mileage.

Like mondtster said. These are trucks that run 65-75 mph for 8+ hours a day at least. Hell, my local Dodge dealer has 4 megacab 2007 3500's that have 175k+ on them. The 2 identical red ones both had 191k. A 2007! I looked at them and you could see the DOT numbers at the bottom of the door. Both delivered golf carts. All were 6.7's so I didn't want em. Well, that and they still wanted $26k for em.

The Cummins we swapped into my buddy's Bronco over two years ago had 300k when we pulled it from the donor truck. Did the front and rear main seals while we had it out...with the pan off I looked at the inside, shrugged, and put it back together.

He's been driving the truck nearly every day for the last year and a half, made 3 trips to Austin TX pulling trailers, towed other stuff to Virginia, South Carolina, Florida, Massachusetts, Pennsy, etc. Locally he uses it to bring stuff to the scrap yard. The engine probably has well over 350k now and runs every bit as well as it did from the factory...even with a full Banks turbo kit and fuel plate.

I completely agree with you, my daily driver is a 77 1/2 ton chevy. Its a pretty crappy truck, and I think how the truck is treated has more to do with it than how old it is. I say this because my buddies truck is a 92, and the previous owner bought it brand new and babied it (old couple). The interior was gutted because it leaked and water got under the mat and rusted the floors a little. Common problem for those trucks. My 77 leaks but its 15 years older. I still would rather have his old square body cummins, its a kick ass truck.

In one day I can count ALOT of ford and chevys in the 92 year modle range and there all, for the most part in good shape. How many 92ish dodges do I see weekly mabey 5, and they all look 10 years older than they are.

We can argue till we're blue in the face, but you can't covince me other wise. Dodge is well know for being less quality, thats the main reason they are usually cheaper.

IMHO, that has more to do with what dealerships are good in your area. I've moved around quite a bit and have seen places where the most prevalent trucks on the road are chevys, moved somewhere else and found more fords, and moved again and see more Dodges. I don't see that many old trucks around here anymore period because they have pretty much all rusted to pieces. There are still plenty of mid '90s Chevys, Fords, and Dodges around here though (yet), so pick your poison. They're all in roughly the same condition regardless of manufacturer. The manufacturers all pretty much the same, and they all have some stupid design flaws. Each manufacturer just might have a little bit different problems.

Got rid of my 91 4wd with 479k on the odo. a couple months ago. A little weak compaired to my other trucks but would pull fine and get 21mpg below 70 on the road.

Have an 89 2wd with 180k on it and runs strong.

Have the "crawler hauler" 1-ton flatbed dually and its at 360k but blew a head gasket a few weeks ago, other than that it still run fine. Will be swapping in a spare motor and opening up this one when time permits.
