i'd say at VERY least 4.56. And that ten bolt front isn't gonna like those 42" tsl's too much, have fun snappin' axle shafts.

EDIT: this should be moved to the newbie section.

Depends on the trans. 4 speed stick, 4.10s. 700r4, 4.88s.

My .02.

the 10 bolt is built and the tranny is a sm465

With the 465, you might be okay.. my buddy has a 465 with 4.56's on 40's and the gearing is low enough IMO.

Good. Run the stock 4.10s, and spend the money on a 60.

What rig is it going in? What terrain do you wheel? As already said, that 10 bolt wont like those 42's very much. Even if you do beef it up. I recommend 4.56's.

EDIT- X2 on this going to the newbie section.

I would run it with the 4.10's and see how you like it. Since you say daily driver and 42's with a front 10-bolt I'm guessing it won't see much if any off-road duty. Cruising down the highway is pretty nice with 4.10's and 42's. I have a friend with this combo and while not a daily driver he spent years driving his truck to and from the trails (including going out of state many times) and it did fine. His is an automatic so crappy 1st gear, but with a mild big block it's on the verge of getting stupid if you mash the gas from a stop light. With the SM465 you always have the option of using granny low to get going.

There is no way I would recommend spending the money to go from 4.10 to 4.56.

I had 39.5's and 4:10's. It was just about right. I think you'll be alright but eventually wanna go lower depending on what you wanna do with it.

I could turn mine over fine with a very mildly built 350 and 465

Oh and I had 44 front. No idea how strong a 10 bolt is as i've never owned one. You'll probably wanna change that soon

put it all together and try it out. When you start breaking the upgraded axle shafts, you will want a Dana 60. some of those came with 4:56. Find one of those or one that someone put those in and then you just have to gear the rear.
