Fuel pump pressure...

I wanted to hear your suggestions. I have a new fuel filter that I am going to install this afternoon, but I am an impatient piece of shit.

If I had a clogged or almost clogged fuel filter above the pump, would the accumulated pressure be to much for the seal of the pump to retain? Causing my pump to piss its self? It was leaking when it was running though? Just wondering?

The last new fuel filter that I installed was when the V-8 was put in, back in 92'.

The fuel pump is just two check valves and a diaphragm. If the outlet is blocked the check valves just stay open and the pump will not pump (it's called stall). The pumps output pressure is regulated by the spring tension used in the check valves. A clogged filter is seen by the fuel pump no differently that the needle and seat closed on the carb.

sooooooo...then what you are saying is that the pump has a problem and that I should replace it:confused:

I don't want to damn it:flipoff2:

Replace it or go electric like I did. Ever seen a motor :nuke: because the crankcase was full of gas! I have and its' not pretty!

I bought a carter for my 454, and it worked well for a bit.... then, it started leaking like a bastard out the base of the pump. So I took it off the engine, took it apart, dryed it out and siliconed all the seals and reassembled it. It didn't leak up until I cracked it off the side of the engine on saturday, so maybe try that. Make sure to use high temp gas friendly silicone though.
