: Caburator Crap
Orionn 10-07-2002, 11:43 AM My Zuki is alive again after the swamping, but has a few carburator problems now.
How much/What can I remove from the carburator and still have it RUN right? (choke still work and so on). There is no Emission testing here in Michigan, at least for now, and I need to take the carb off/apart to clean all the leftover mud from inside it anyhow.
If I do this, will it mess up the computer? Should I also pull the O2 sensor? what are some of the other problems with this?
Its a trail rig only, and the engine is in stock form, but is burning a fair amount of oil since the swamping, probably needs rings and a hone job, what do you all think?
A rebuild is mostly out of the qeustion here, as I want a 1.6L 8v in the next year or so and I want to save the $$$ for that. (lookin' for a cheeper fix for now)
any input is greatly appreciated here.:D
ghost dog 10-07-2002, 04:36 PM Buy a Weber for the time being. You plug all of your smog in and outs and you no longer run your motor on the computer. When you get ready to buy your 1.6L you can recoup some of the cash on the Weber. Just a thought.
Rockrat 10-07-2002, 05:34 PM Weber cough, cough, garbage, cough Just my o2 I would waist my money on that overpriced pc. ^@#$% take yours apart clean it up and put it back on most of the electrical stuff is Idle, kick down and warm up.
mud-magnet 10-07-2002, 05:50 PM i'v had nothing but good luck with stock carbs........ on both my sammys, i never had any problems with it.......and i love of chamber stuff..........ask my passengers....:flipoff2:
i'm going to try a pony next though, my stocker is not working that great latly, might just need to be cleaned, but well i'll figure out something:D
Orionn 10-07-2002, 06:52 PM Yea I am going to keep the Stocker carb, I just want to know if I pull most of the vacume lines if it will really mess with it or not.(i'll plug them of course  )
I am curiouse here, not haven't too much experience with carbs, what the heck is the O2 sensor for on a Carbed engine?!?!? Its not like it can radically change the fuel/air mix or anything.
if the vacume lines are pulled(and capped) and I only have the choke and kickdown circuts left, is it needed? can I just unplug it? (O2 Sensor) at this point the main computer is useless also, I think?
I unfortunatly DONT have a shop Manual yet for it so these elementry questions are a thorn in the proverbial side for all of you but I appreciate the feedback. I have a Shop manual on my christmas wish list though....Maybe Santa will be nice this year :D

Exactly.
My stocker is great.
Clean it and go with it.
My o2 sensor is gone, can't tell any difference.
Everything else is hooked up stock.
horse_with_no_name 10-09-2002, 08:57 AM just a thought , maybe the o2 sensor is there for the altitude compensator, among other things..Do you know any other truck the has altitide compensation capabilities, damn these zuks sure do surprise me as to there universality(can run to the four corners of the earth) and easy to work on design(just like a early (heep/rover)and their extreme reliability, and adaptability.Nuf said stock seems to work pretty damn good!
Z_speed96 10-09-2002, 09:30 AM I just went through my entire carb/smog/emissions stuff on my zuke to get it to pass smog in CA. I have the FSM. Message me if you need the diagrams or specs or something out of that.
If it will help.:)
Orionn 10-09-2002, 09:34 AM Yea, Keep the stock stuff. thats the idea
Altitude compensator huh....didn't know about that....Damn I need a Shop manual
anyone have an Idea if the shop Manuals on CD are any good? I saw a few messages posted here that made it sound like a rip off, you pay but never recieve the goods. Anyone have an idea? Or an spare manual I can get for less than what they cost new at the dealer?
Thanks for all the input.
peace :D
