Here in the UK I've got a 1975 J26 with the 4G53 ASTRON engine which I use daily.
If anyone has any info on compatible engines, gearboxes, etc I would very much appreciate hearing from them.

I google searched and came accross another thread you started...

anyways....I noticed someone said it was a narrowblock engine.

You would want a narrow block from a truck, not sure if any of the narrow blocks were 4x4 so thats something to think about, transfer case setup.

I'm not sure how strong the stock transmission is, but most narrowblocks engines should bolt up, most namely the 4G63 2.0L Turbo engine from a mitsubishi eclipse. I'd be worried about the strength though...
