A friend has this rear end and is thinking about using it.

I'm not too familiar with the newer years or what they were. Looks like some for of limited slip device?

It's in a 2005 2500HD 2wd truck that had a Duramax.

Seen the HD 2500s with 14 bolt semi floater, but I doubt it with the Duramax.

Yep the 8.1's and duramax had the 11.5 ring gear. The 6.0's came with the 10.5.

Good deal. The AAM 11.5 has all the same gearing options as the 10.5 does. Couple locker options too.

So it's referred to as an AAM 14-bolt and has an 11.5" ring gear. I know everything or most everything about years through say around '90... anything newer than that's been beyond what Ive been able to afford owning or having any experience with.

The 1500HD's and 2500's (non HD) trucks had the semifloat. The HD's had the AAM 10.5 and 11.5.
