: Trail Tunes ?
Champion 02-12-2010, 04:33 AM I no longer have any music in my jeep and it is starting to anger me. Especially when the guy behind on the trail is just blasting Neil Diamond (you know who you are):). What are you guys running for trail tunes. I think I might be able to just run my MP3 player off an amp and bypass putting in a CD player. Where are you guys mounting speakers?
Mulely 02-13-2010, 01:22 PM Yeah, that actually works pretty well as long as you don't need a sub. If you want one, you need to hunt down a 5 channel amp. I made gussets in my cage to hold the speakers and just run them in a free air config.
LucasFury 02-13-2010, 01:32 PM I run a cheap JVC CD player with audio input through a pair of 6x9's and 5 1/4's with no amp. I don't really bump my noise though and don't expect to hear it with the top off on the highway...
jeep937 02-13-2010, 01:45 PM I'm running the engine.
yjjeepster 02-13-2010, 03:13 PM The biggest piece of shit cd player that is ipod compatible that money can buy. They typically don't like mud, the pressure washer and running in the rain with no top.
laughingcrow 02-13-2010, 03:20 PM I have a radio that's older than the jeep and the wiring is fawcked. I give it a good swift kick to the face and it turns on to what ever it chooses. (the only button that is still workin right is the off button.)
jpfrk2001 02-13-2010, 04:03 PM Check the last pages of my build. Heres what I am running:
Cheap ass 7band EQ/front/rear fade w/sub controls
Decent 2 channel amp
Good quality wirekit for amp
8" Pyle driver wakeboard speakers mounted on my cage
I wired a basic blue illumination toggle on the activation wire to turn everything on.
I have a basic phone/co-axial cable adapter going to input of EQ. Everything from EQ is wired like a typical system. I plug my Ipod into the cable adapter. I use the volumn control on the ipod to control the system. Works awsome and very little money invested. Get with Tawlboy for all your needs. Not that expensive but works great.

jeeps4jesus 02-13-2010, 06:17 PM i run a pioneer head unit that has and ipod hook up. i run an alpine marine amp and have marine bazooka tubes mounted on my rollbar.
DieselDent 02-13-2010, 06:51 PM Found a old marine head unit and two marine speakers on craigslist, they have held up really well and came with a front cover to keep water and mud off.
Rockworm 02-13-2010, 07:45 PM I have a cheapy Pioneer stereo combo'd with the standard front speakers in my YJ, and 6x9 Alpine speakers in the Tuffy speaker/storage boxes mounted on the rear fender wells, along with an amp that was already in my junk when I bought it years ago??? . Nothing to brag about, but I'm not that picky, either. But I LOVE the extra storage!
btw... I would never listen to Neil Diamond... even at my age! :p More like LedZeplin or VanHalen for me on the trail. :smokin:

GR8WHITE 02-13-2010, 08:18 PM Panasonic deck w/ anti skip CD player Eclipse 6X9's in boxes attached to roll cage w/ exhaust clamps CD's haven't skipped yet.

MR. HOGG 02-15-2010, 04:46 AM First off: :flipoff2:
I haven't rocked Mr. Neil Diamond while wheelin for a while, in fact i believe HEART was the favored music on one of the more recent outings. :D
Secondly: I have a hook up on IPOD ready radios. face flips down and ipod slides in. THe price is rockin. Than go to the vendor section and pick up the wake board package.
WallyP226 02-15-2010, 09:54 AM I got your Niel Diamond. :grinpimp:

As far as head unit, I have heard from various officiendos of high end electronics eqiupment that Kenwood was one of the heartier head units to purchase that tolerated moisture and shock better than most. Alpine was another one. Although I killed a Kenwood. :homer:
I had custom speaker boxes made that are bolted to the rear fenders onthe inside between the roll cage bars.

hurleygo3 02-15-2010, 11:29 AM For $20 you can pick up a kit to charge your ipod and plug it right into the amp. Then get a amp control for the volume. I than picked up a set of wake board speakers for $80, removed the cheap speakers and put a nice set in.
This set up hides everything from water and mud.
zippy64 03-11-2010, 02:17 PM get a pyle marine radio with there waterproof amp the pyle I run also has a slot for memory cards so I had my kid down load to those also has a usb port, I think I paid 150 for the radio and 150 for the amp on ebay also got my marine speakers there nothing is 100% waterproof but better then not. I did just see them for less then I paid, go figure

I put our speakers behind the rear set. I made a nice looking box with the subs and mids and high's. Sounds really killer and is easy to take out if I need to.
And if you see them listening to Neil diamond, they should be shot!:flipoff2:
crashnzuk 03-11-2010, 03:09 PM What is your problem with Neil Diamond, the man has a couple of good songs. Just sayin':flipoff2:

My shit is like sony model #1... I think this was the cd player that jesus has in his manger. :smokin:
I got my dash speakers and some speaker pods behind the front seats with some cheap ass 6x9's. I figure some thug might see my fawesome kmart blue light specials in the process of stealing them and feel bad for me and leave them alone... possibly leave me a set he stole from someone who gives a fawk and maybe a little 'rock' too...
JDunn 03-11-2010, 04:55 PM I have my ipod, amp amd wakeboard speakers. Nice and simple.

TJeep56 03-11-2010, 08:08 PM I started off not wanting to do much as far as audio goes in my TJ because I rarely drive it. Anyways...I ended up doing a alpine cda-9886, a rockford 25th anniversary power 1000 5ch amp, jl audio tr 525, pioneer tsd in the rear overhead bar, and a 10" alpine type r sub. It sounds pretty good for the trail rig...
Daddy_O 03-11-2010, 10:44 PM Alpine head unit full of sand, I-Pod in sealed glove box, Fosgate Amp and crossovers and Sony X-Plode tweets, 6" mid and 10" subs. Clear as a bell regardless of what's going on around me. Nice thing is the expensive stuff is stashed and the speakers/boxes are disposable but will take the preasure washer. :) Tweets and mids are on the back fender well behind the roll bar and the box is in the trunk.
Pantera and Steely Dan is good trail music.
olllotj 03-12-2010, 07:00 AM I have Wakeboard tower speakers run off my head unit.
Waterproof, loud, didn't need a amp.

Damn TB! you can't get any better then that! Just throw in a cheap 7 Band EQ between the amp and Ipod, and your sound quality increase goes off the chart!:grinpimp:
jsmith7364 03-12-2010, 01:38 PM There are so many ways to mount audio equipment in your rig.
All have merit.
The only thing that I think should be considered is to stop using an ipod. I know SHOCK SHOCK.
I don't want my ipod destroyed becuase it came loose and went flying while I wheel.
What I did was to get a medium range stereo but my criteria was for it to have a USB connector or SD Card slot.
I selected one with the card slot and carry 3 or 4, 4GB cards with my music on them. Same quality as the ipod just a little less stress on my ipod.
Now it also needs to be said that i don't buy music through itunes. I have all my music in mp3 format.
Just a suggestion.

Or just buy a cheap mp3 for using in the rig only.
RickyRetardo 03-30-2010, 01:46 PM I have a small mp3 player that I use when it's really dusty where I used velcro to mount it to the dash and it connects to the JVC unit via a midi to midi cable. Other wise, I use the ipod connection in the glove box which also has the space age velcro mounting to keep it from bouncing around.
i use a pelican case that has an external stereo connection and connected to amp with inline volume control.
