: Steering box top seal?

I've searched and found the conversation between Wooders and Nasvik, but no other info to speak of.

The TOP seal on my CJ7 steering box is leaking like a bitch. To the point that I poured PS fluid into the pump reservoir and it all leaked out of the top seal within 2 days.

Is there a replaceable seal there?

If so, where can I get the seal?

Should I just say "Screw it!" and get a Waggie box?

Thanks.

Its just ans o-ring so snag a new top off another box, or pull the top off yours and see what is casusing it to leak. Probably if you just pull the top off and wipe it off tha just might fix it. To pull the top off the easy way just count the threads sticking up above the set nut for the sector screw adjusted and wright that down. Should be about 2 +- 1 most of the time. Now take the set nut off, pull the 4 bolts out, and start turning the adjustee in with a 5/32 allen wrench. This will start raising the cap off the sector shaft and will come allthe way off. To put it back on just do the reverse.

The new seals arent even o rings anymore. At least not from the factory, its a metal gasket with rubber in the right places. how easy is that

The o-ring is the standard seal and the metal one is a heavy duty seal. I highly recommend using the metal ones, no matter what it had before.
I've got those seals hanging on the wall at the shop. If you need one let me know and i can mail it in the morning.
