I have been given a set of four 16.5 x 9.75 aluminum wheel. One and only one wheel says that it is a Weld. the other three are unbranded and show only minor differences. The thing is that the odd three have 60 degree steel inserts for the lug nuts. the Weld wheel doesn't. The I.D. of the holes are slightly different. should I have the Weld wheel milled and have the inserts installed (The obvious answer)? I have never seen a set of wheels like this, any input would be appreciated.

I have a set of Centerline ProTruck wheels that have the steel insert for acorn lugs, but all the other sets of aluminum wheels since those have used acorn nuts directly on the aluminum. If it did not have them, probably doesn't need them. Just make sure it's not designed for a shank type mag wheel nut.

If you're goind to take the rims on & off a lot, you could have the inserts
put in the Weld rim, but it's really not neccessary. The Weld is most likely a forged rim, as opposed to cast. Cast rims will get "galling" type damage wear
due to the soft aluminum used. The forged aluminum is considably stronger.
