I have a samurai that I am putting all toyota drive train into. I have the engine, tranny and t-case in place. Now I am working on the radiator. To install a Toyota radiator, I would have to get rid of the steering box and go to a Toyota box (already have a couple 2wd boxes) on the outside of the frame. The other option that I like better is using a reverse swing steering box so I can move my axle forward without interference. Does anyone know of a stock application box that would do this and be a good size for the sami?

The other problem I see is that I have to cut out the hood latch and sheetmetal around it.

I was thinking of trying a Sami radiator. Will a sami radiator kep the 22R cool?

I would bet not enough radiator if you use Sami rad w/22R. Just a guess.

one of my friends was running the 22R with the stock zuki rad.

He ran the Toy motor for more than 15 minutes at 6500RPM's to get out of a mud hole...I've seen him do it one many occasions and the thing never had a heat problem....we don't have much rockcrawling around here but in the mud it worked for him.

The motor finally went when he lost the oil pan in a mud hole, lost the oil and blew the motor.......

92 Zukimoo.....with one piston missing
87 tin top with AC
88 soft top......all covered in mud

I am installing a Land Cruiser box with the forward swinging arm. Its gonna work nice, I can now push my axle as far forward as I want.

the Scout II steering box is probably your best bet. They are very cheap to buy, and have a lot of aftermarket for them. you can change the seals, gearing, or port them for hydro assist.. An all around good box that is reversed throw. Also a bunch of OEM pitmans will fit this Saginaw box. I'm using a Ford truck arm on mine, but also have some GM units that I didn't like, but fit just fine.

If you get the three core rad from petroworks you won't have any heat problems

I think that is a 2 core.. Anyhow, I did have their radiator back when I had VW power in the Samurai. It was not up to the task, and that was only 100 HP. I'd look into a better radiator. nothing sucks worse then having cooling problems with a new motor swap.. Trust me on this one. :(

I had used an 85 Toyoya Tercell radiator to keep mine going, and it slipped snugly between the frame and the stock steering box. I removed the plastic splash guard and the two rad support brackets. Without a fan shroud I only had a problem, when the belt slipped at 5K rpm and the motor got a little warm.
I chose the Trecel rad only because i didnt want to deal with buying more hose, the inlet and outlet were both on the same side like the stock samurai rad.
