I will be calling also. That is such bull. The fact does remain that a car was burned that weekend, and local law enforcement was aware of it. Those people should be able to be identified and held accountable. How can RCAA be held responsable for an incident 2 miles from their event? If the car is still there, I will certainly help to remove it. (I'd hate to hit it at 50 mph. at 4 a.m.):D

Get in contact with the BLM -- you guys should be on a first-name basis with them in the first place, given the clean-up efforts you manage out there. Politely straighten out their perception of events, then consummate the working relationship by helping them to get the burnt-out car outta there

Sun Tzu wrote in the Art of War: "Keep your friends close and your enemies closer."

The BLM isn't always an enemy -- but they sure can be. On the flip side of that coin, sometimes they'll work side-by-side with us as allies.

If you're not tight with the gubmint, there are too many other folks who are willin to get their opinion in first.... regardless of the facts.

The Ridgecrest BLM Office website is here: http://www.ca.blm.gov/ridgecrest/
I believe you have the wrong fella to contact - Mike Ahrens used to contract through CA4WDC, didn't think he was BLM. Regardless, check the BLM directory: http://www.ca.blm.gov/ridgecrest/directory.html
...and get us all a sample letter to email and an email address to send it to...

We've already put in a huge order for Misfits t-shirts:flipoff2: :flipoff2:

Seriously though, the BLM office will be getting many phone calls this morning. The car was towed off the lakebed within five days of it gettin burned, so it's been taken care of.

Put in a call, or better yet, write to Mike Aarons the BLM guy out there. His number is 760 252 6047, I'll have to find an address for you. Tell him the facts.;)

Ok, here's some contact info,

Mike Ahrens, Outdoor Recreation Planner

BLM Barstow Office
2601 Barstow Rd.
Barstow Ca 92311

It would be really good if those of you that were there could drop him a note so that it's a matter of record that the Benders weren't involved. It's lookin like some people that weren't even there have been runnin thier mouths spewing bullshiat, and now the Benders are going to have to clear this up.

Is the BLM contact Mike Aherns, or Mike Aarons?

Mike Aherns was with Cal4Wheel, and is now a BLM employee. Jeri knows Mike Aherns well. Get the name correct, down to the spelling (or protect the source if needed).

I would be careful to avoid shooting the messenger. If Gear Grinders or Cal4Wheel heard some false reporting about your club's conduct, it's important to know to get it corrected. Get past the he-said/she-said: get the real story (from a BLM prospective) and post it.

Then with story in hand get your letter out, with supporting facts, and post it. Post it even if the BLM says there is no true allegations, and it's all just a rumor. Negative image rumor tends to continue working until the media picks it up (and they usually fail to check the facts).

Much of this style of propaganda is tossed out to divide off-roaders. It sounds like someone in the BLM may have brewing up negative publicity, and the unfocused plan leaked before it caused intensive damage. It would be interesting to know who began the rumor, but in the big picture it's more effective to stop the rumor before it gets picked up by the media.

There are good people working for the BLM, friendly to off-roaders, and those that wish we would go away. Situations like this can make an enemy as easily as a friend.

Happy Trails!

The phone number I have matches up with Mike Ahrons.

There's definately no "shooting the messenger" going on here. I'm just as interested in finding out from the BLM how this story got out as I am in setting things straight. The other thing I'm trying to do is get a copy of the report or the F/I cards that the local law enforcement wrote on the burned up car.;)

BTW, who brought the Gear Grinders into this:confused:

Just got an e-mail from Jeri (CA4WDC) saying that the BLM DOES NOT believe the Benders are involved in this and and the BLM is contacting the Sheriff to find out about the report and take it from there....
