i dont have a question as much as i am just very excited. today was the first day of my week long welding class at CU boulder. i learned so much today and we didnt even get at the tools yet. to add some tech.... for homework we have to simulate pushing a puddle by drawing horseshoe type deals across a piece of paper ill post some pictures when im done. i thought it was a neat teaching technique that i have never heard of. any tips for me besides practice practice practice? also any suggestions of beginner projects they dont even have to be offroad specific anything cool! post up some pics of your beginner projects and welding

All I can say is its not easy, old blokes make it look easy but its not!
Im a pipewelder by trade, learn to stick and your mig skills will improve greatly, even if you are mediocre at stick your mig skills will improve

tomorrow (tues) is stick welding day so it will be very nice and i think very helpful to learn that first we are also going to dabble in mig and tig and friday is plasma cutter day :D

i dont know if it follows a curriculum. i am not taking it for credits just because i want to learn. the instructor is a great guy and very knowledgeable so i bet he just made it up as a week long introduction to welding. hes been welding for 40 years and teaching this class for 17 :smokin:

pretty much, you learn enough to be comfortable practicing on your own, so far its been a real help i feel comfortable around all the tools and am starting to grasp the concepts it is alot harder than i though it was going to be, ill post up some stuff from today in a bit maybe it will help some people out

It's an unwritten rule that the first two projects is a cart for your new welder and a welding table.
