Can you put a mini truck third in the front of a 80 fj40 axle?
I know that the long side shaft is the same but what about the short side???

Same question for rear. I know about the c clips, to switch, something about a full floater or something?

Reason for askin is because mini truck third are way cheaper to buy lockers, and you can get spools ect.

My hopes are not to great, otherwise i would have heard of this, right?

nope the axle size and spline is the same but the 3rd's and housings are different sizes.

How could you mod the housing, or could you?
Ex: flange or something. Is a 4 cylinder third too shallow or too deep? If the spline count is the same size and the axels are the same size, than with some work, they should fit?

inner axle size is the same, length is not. You'd effectively need to graft the mini center section into a cruiser-length housing. IMO, more work than it's worth.

CV Unlimited and some others make a centered rear diff that runs minitruck axle shafts and no c-clip, but it's designed to run the Cruiser chunks.

for all that work, just run minitruck axles front and rear, run a chev motor, granny tranny, and a centered rear output t-case with a drivers drop. still not cheap tho.

Hey Woody,

Are we talking left to right distance? (too short)
Or Front to back distance ?( To shallow )

If it is too short, that would work out better because I was thinking of beefing up my front axel anyway. I could cut the tubes down / or graft on mini tubes to make it fit. You have me thinkin...

(ALSO Saw the review on that e-locker to LC on your site. Looks cool!)

Hey Dr Claw,
remember that trailer load of mini truck axles you helped upload,
well there is a pile bigger then that of Cruiser axles in the white shed.
Grab a tape measure and start measuring, anything can be made to fit but it's usually not worth the effort or time
You should have bought Crawlin Cruisers front locker
Deal with the open diffs for a while, save some money, then buy a Detroit for the back and install it in the morning and go wheeling in the afternoon.
It's so much easier, you don't even have to fire up a cutting torch:) (inside joke, sorry guys)

i suppose if you wanted to you could put in mine 3rds in the cruiser axles, actually it would be really cool to shave the cruiser housing for awsome clearance, hmm now i'm thinking.
