: rear shackles........
FULLSIZE 10-08-2002, 12:08 AM had a few ideas about how i'm gonna do my shackle flip. not sure if i want to use the stock mount and just move it forward for a better shackle angle or if i want to use a stock front mount to replace the rear and use a long shackle. i had good luck with the long shackle on my jeep, but this things heavier and i plan to use the factory blocks(with a ladder style traction bar). not sure if i'd just be wasting my time on a flimsy attemt at gaining flex or if it would payoff like on the heep.
what do you guys think, just another useless flex idea or worth pursuing?:p
Pavemen 10-08-2002, 09:06 AM http://ramchargercentral.com has a shakle flip kit for the older Rams/RC/PWs.
Lloyd 10-08-2002, 10:25 AM IMO the long shackles would be a good thing. There's a guy with a 77-78 Ford Supercab running leafs, I think he's FULLSIZESRULE now but had some other username earlier, and he's getting very good flex out of his. As I recall he'd put some Skyjacker rear Ford springs up front (without the overloads) and had 63" long newer Chevy leaves mounted under the frame rails in back. Seems like he was running 8-12" shackles. I think he spent a lot of time getting the shock mounts right, but the pics I've seen show awesome flex. There was one in the last MRSHIT4BRAINS thread that someone else posted, but I think that thread's been deleted now. There was another couple he posted about 2-3 years ago that showed the thing twisted up in the rocks, and one with a front tire being lifted by a forklift when he was doing the shock mount measurements. You might want to try to track him down; his leaf setup appears to work as well as anything I've seen.
FULLSIZE 10-08-2002, 01:51 PM i've seen that ford. i dont like the idea of going under the frame, not to stable. i had a buddy that did it and he always pulled front tires climbing anything slightly off camber. think i'm gonna do the long shackles....................;)
PJTPW 10-08-2002, 03:16 PM Here's mine. I used front rear spring hangars in the rear. I got exactly 2 inches of lift with the factory shackles. A longer shackle would be good.
Departure angle is not bad considering factory springs have the pins off set to the rear 2 inches. They're 28" for the rear half and 24" for the front part of the spring.
I also cut 9" off my frame.
BTW those are 44's

GRMhick 10-08-2002, 05:06 PM I really wish i had taken some pictures of them, but on one of the pre-runner rangers at the off road expo, there were some damn beefy shackles on the back, and i wanted to take a pic and copy the idea, but longer, but i didnt get a pic. maybe i will just have to make a set so that i can show you want i mean :flipoff2:

looks like the shackle to spring mounting point is the same as stock? hows that project comin along? i want to see more pics.
i'm probably not going to bob my frame or bed(yet). was thinking about the 63" later model rears, but i never knew the factory springs were offset. i'll have to check it out cause i thought i measured mine as 26"f / 26"r.
definately gonna use the factory front mount with a long shackle.:D
spitz pdc 10-08-2002, 11:55 PM Hey fullsize, I inboarded a set of chev 1/2ton springs under my 73 Power Wagon with a d60 rear and I love it. In fact I did it after talking to you on this site 1 year ago and you suggested it. I just went through the con and they work great......A little to much body sway on the road though.....I plan to move my shocks to help with that but really its for the trails anyway. along with my side armor/sliders.. the rear inboarded springs are one of my favorite mods...... maybe yer buddy needs to soften up his front for more droop? I was playing around trying to see how far I could tip and had a hard time getting any wheel to leave dirt. I'd love to see a pic of yer rig. I'll try to get some of my con photos up. need to see more Dodges up there.....I only painted one rock, I'll try harder next time!.... I did get some decent photos of flex around the gate keeper.
FULLSIZE 10-09-2002, 10:24 AM cool. glad it worked. show me some pics of the spring/hanger setup. i'd like to see it.:D
maybe my freind did something else i wasn't aware of.;)
spitz pdc 10-14-2002, 01:34 PM Hey fullsize I'll start a new post with the pics and address it to you, so watch for it... I'm waiting for the cable to download my pics and then figure out how to get'em up on here.:) .....I'm not computer stupid...........just dumb:confused:
spitz pdc 10-14-2002, 01:50 PM oh yeah I still wanna see some pics of yer rig also.... :D
FULLSIZE 10-14-2002, 03:31 PM no you dont ;)
FULLSIZE 10-15-2002, 06:43 PM still waiting for pictures!:flipoff2: decided to go under the frame. i'll post pics when i get it set-up.;)
OzzZuki 10-16-2002, 08:28 PM what all did you use to build the rear shakle flip hangers??
spitz pdc 10-24-2002, 06:26 PM Don't blame ya fer not waiting... I think you'll like the frame under a lot..... plus f*#k it .. if it sucks you can go back without consequences.. sorry fer the delay I've been working after hours nonstop on my new wrap around rear bumper and raising the front bumper higher. I hate always undoing and redoing all my work, but it just keeps getting more BADASSS everytime.
