: few simple suspention questions

I have a 70 K10 that I'm building for a DD. It won't see any hard wheeling, Just muddy driveways and snow. I want to lift it 4 to 6 inches, and my stock springs are shot. I have heard alot of bad press about most lift kits making the ride rougher, and I cant afford to spend $2000 on one. I can fab whatever I need, and would rather just build my own.

First, I keep hearing about swapping to longer leaf springs. Whats the benefit to this?

Shackle flip. Is there any downside to this?

I've also thought about going to a full link suspention with either coils or airbags. Is there any good threads about this?
there was a guy over on 67-72chevytrucks.com that built exactly what I was thinking with bags. He got it on the road, and then stopped coming to the site.

Thanks for any info.

A 1970 would love you for getting it all new springs. I would just buy two sets of tuff country spings.

get some 52" long x 2" lift rear springs and put them in the front and then get some 6" rear springs.

There are a million ways to do it, but I would buy new springs all around with a 40 year old truck.

X2, you won't spend anywhere near that much money.

If your gonna do it on the cheap, I recommend a simple set of tuff country leafs. The shackle flip is optional. I have never really seen any bad come from them, but its like an option to make your suspension look/drive mcbadass.

I say leafs because links are more for the lines of hardcore offroading. You said that your wheeling will be mild, so I think it would be overkill to the rig, and to your wallet.

Lift kits wont ride like no cadillac, but they shouldnt jar your teeth with every bump you hit either.

X2 enigma2y0u, theres millions of ways to do it.
