: A measuring favor... any non-lifted jeep

Hello!

I've been unsuccessful finding an answer elsewhere, perhaps someone here can give me a quick assist?

Just would like to know how much up-travel there is on a stock, solid front axle jeep. I'm setting up a low-as-practical SFA on my vehicle and want a ballpark idea where to start, height-wise. Distance from top of front axle to bumpstop on a jeep that has not been lifted.

I'll owe you a beverage?

Thanks!

Really anything with a stock solid front axle, there are 3 Jeeps in my work parking lot but all of them have lifts, so they're between 6 and 10 inches above their bumpstops, the TJ with about 6" from axle to bumpstop belongs to a guy who says he put a 3" lift on (bright blue coils, assuming those are aftermarket) but that would mean that from the factory there was only 3" of up-travel between the frame and axle.. that *seems* like not very much but with no point of reference I have no idea.

I have adjustable height coil buckets for my SAS so I can make some changes as necessary, but it would be awesome to get it close to right the first time.

Thanks for your reply so far! :D

It doesn't matter what other jeeps have.

You want about 4-5" of un-impeded up-travel at the tire before your axle hits the bumpstops. Set your shocks up accordingly.

If you don't understand what that means then you don't belong fucking with things yet. Good luck to you.

It's understood perfectly :D I just had no nearby non-lifted vehicle to get a base number from to start the measuring, research and calculation for my own swap. My next stop would have been a car dealership to start measuring on whatever's on their lot or risk owner wrath at a mall parking lot "HEY WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO MY CAR WITH THAT MEASURING TAPE!?!!"

So 4-5" at the tire is a good place to start, it's similar to the roughly 4" up-travel (at the brake disc) that is available on my presumably unaltered IFS at road height before touching the bump-stop.

Thanks :)
