: doing a flat skid with a 203/205
azjeeplove 02-20-2010, 03:47 PM I purchased a YJ recently with d/60's, LT1, and SM465 with a 203/205 sitting on 44" tires on H1 beadlocks. so far the jeep has been great but the t-cases hang down a long ways and i would like to gain some more clearance. wheel base is currently at 111". attached is a pic and i know there will be comments about the color but that is what the wife wanted and it was her vehicle i traded for it. it was painted this color and taken to the breast cancer 3 day walk. as you can see in the pic the t-case is low hanging.

Sorry, what does is involved in moving the 203/205 up for more clearance. I have no problem cutting some floor out but not really sure what all is involved.

CtChevy 02-20-2010, 04:08 PM Ok , cant really tell from the pic but is the 203 or the 205 hanging the lowest. If its just an issue with the 205 you need to get a different mating plate for the 205 that will clock it up out of the way.
Now if you have an issue with the 203 hanging to low you have some more issues the need to be addessed, I dont know if you have any kinda of body lift but to truck that set up in there you mite need a very small body lift 1-2 inches to get the room or you will have to cut up the floor to make them fit. you will still need the new plate to clock the 205 though.
Now if you need more room then that you can clock the 203 to be flat i have seen this done with custom adapters to the trans. I am acutally picking up a set up tommorrow that has the 203 clocked flat with a custom made plate. hope that helps.
also check out this post this is the set up i am picking up

tmaddox4x4 02-20-2010, 05:20 PM Not alot of options. Ballistic is working on a 205 clocking ring.
CtChevy 02-20-2010, 05:28 PM Clocking ring would work, if its a round pattern. not so sure how you would clock a figure 8 pattern 205, i know Offroad design sells 203/205 doubler plates that clock the 205.
TeenyCAR 02-20-2010, 07:46 PM I bought a clocking plate for the "track" style bolt pattern off ebay. The people that make them are up in Washinton. It clocks the 205 flat.

djelliott916 02-20-2010, 08:56 PM Wow, thats the setup I was thinking about doing. Hows the rear driveline angle?
azjeeplove 02-20-2010, 09:15 PM Wow, thats the setup I was thinking about doing. Hows the rear driveline angle?
The driveline angle is good and the low gears with the SM465 is nice to have. with the LT1 i idle over most everything. just concerned about how low the doubler sits but it is not too bad. I may just build a new skid plate if i cant move it up without too much trouble. I'm running 44" tires so i have some clearance.
geberhard 02-21-2010, 05:09 PM awesome rig. Can you post up some pics from underneath on the setup? Alos what is the measurement of the 205-203 combo you have?
Thx!

mudskipper4x4 02-22-2010, 10:11 AM Depending on the brand of doubler adapter depends on how you can clock the 203 and 205. NWF adapter let you have numerous clocking options.
I have the same setup as you 465/203/205 and the 205 is clocked flat using the NWF adapter so it is even with the bottom of the 203 range box. With the crossmember that I built the lowest part is 3" below the frame. Not bad considering I didn't hack up the floor to get it this way.
I have about 22" of ground clearance under the crossmember running 38's.
I also have a tbi 350 that I raised 4" in the frame rails to allow everything to come up more under the belly.
If you want some pics of the crossmember let me know and I'll post them.

cdhowell 02-24-2010, 07:29 AM Hey Dean, keep your drive shaft angle and length in mind. That is what happened to me on Conda. I di not think the front had changed that much and it pulled the driveshaft apart.
mudskipper4x4 02-24-2010, 10:40 AM I like the custom 465/203 adapter. I would advise supporting the 205 with the crossmember someway also.
How far below the frame does the current combo sit? Kinda hard to tell exactly from the pics what the measurement is?
McCracken 02-24-2010, 02:01 PM that's the same set up I have. the only thing I can figure is flip the 203 and the linkages and clock the 205. That's the best way. However, that would take redesigning the 4-link on mine and a number of other issues.
Pricecheck 04-25-2010, 07:59 PM Hey man,
I'm in this same boat, just don't have the jeep running but know partially what it's gonna take to snug it up.
I cut a 12" wide chunk out of my tub and brought it up several inches. From the bottom of my frame to top of the custom tranny tunnel it is 13.5". The 203 standing up straight is right about 13.25". A 1" body lift and this cutting will easily fit the 203/205 combo with a flat belly. (NOTE: The pics don't show the console complete and most likely will have to notch out a side for the 205 clocked flat)
