My parents are planning on swapping a 350 into their wrangler which now has a 2.5L. My question is will the ax5 tranny hold up to the power of a 350? If so I am just going to get the tranny adaptor from AA. If not what kind of if any driveline modifications are needed in order to swap a th350 in using AA's Transfer case adapter to keep the np231 tcase. Also does anything have to be modified in order to mount the rear of the th350 to the tranny crossmember, and are there any kits to do this?

Thanks for any info.

Derek

Uh, in a word: No.

Even for highway duty, an AX-5 is just too weak.

TH350 is a much better choice. Getting rid of the 231 wouldn't be a bad idea either, but it'd probably hold up for a while.

AX-5's blow up behind 4cyl's. The budget route for a 350 in a Wrangler is to sell all the Jeep running gear, the 2.5, AX-5, and NP231 will get pretty decent money from someone that needs one, next, get a 700R4 and NP231C from a late model S-10 with a 4.3, bolt it all up behind the 350 of your choice, and drop it into the Wrangler. I've helped to two of these, one with at TBI 350, 700R4 and S-10 NP231, and one with a carbed 350, 700R4, and an S-10 NP207, both work well, but I would shoot for the Chevy NP231 since a SYE kit is available. You should be able to score the 700R4 and NP231, along with all the stuff to make them work for less than any of the Advance Adapters parts. Use Novak motor mounts or make your own, engine swap headers from Summit, and pick up a nice Aluminum Griffin universal radiator while you're at it.

Most of all, search, much more knowledge is at your fingertips. :flipoff2:

I agree. The AX-5 would last a week of babying. Go with the TH-350. Talk to AA about what you need.

i agree with 4Bangler, for the amount of money adapters will cost to keep your current 231, you can easily swap in an entire chevy drivetrain. better look into changing the rears too, although i dont know what you have planned for the jeep in terms of tire size, off road capability, etc.

the 4 squirrels under my hood did a pretty good job of demolishing my AX-5, i would hate to see what a 350 would do

I wouldnt put an AX5 behind a four banger much less a V8. Mine just went:nuke: recently so I swapped to an NP435 and I still have the four banger.
