: 90 vs 110 Front axles

I am trying to build the strongest front axle for my D90 with the stuff that I have in my pile of parts. In this pile I have an '87 110 front axles with 23 spline CV's. The current 90 axle has 32 spline CV's. Other than the spline count of the CV's is there anything else different about the 110 housing? My thoughts are should I just swap the 23 spline CV's or swap the entire axle/housing? I also have a 24 Spline ARB and will be running 24/23 spline Maxi's.

you're on the right track.
the 23 spline 110 CV's are the strongest due to the ~1.20" dia. of the inner axle at the CV end vs ~1.0 " of the 32 spline.

And yes you need custom inners to run a 24 spline diff end and 23 spline CV end. So you'll need maxi's or similar inners like you stated.

And as the trend is at the moment probably get the CV's long fielded.

So what about the 110 housing? Does it have any advantages over the 90 housing?

Hey Christian,

Do what roverhybrids said. That's what I did on the crewcab.

I used Maxi's inner shafts and also for the Salisbury rear.

I don't have my CV's Longfielded. I'm getting ready to make a super beefy front end out of other stuff we have laying around. Just arranged for the front housing today, should be the SHIAT when it's done. Hehehehe.

At that point I'll be selling my present kick-ass front end from the crew cab AND the 80 inch (which has UJ front axles BTW).

Anyway, tangent city.

Do what roverhybrids said.

Which front housing are you using? This is where my question lies. Do I use the 90 or 110 housing. The 90 is easy because it is already in the truck. The 110 requires a swap, but if it is better I will make the swap.

The housings the same.
The spindle parts are different for the 23 spline CV's so since you have the 110 parts you'll probably want to use those. You can use the 90 stuff but you will then need custom drive flanges and a different bearing/race in the spindle where the CV rides. And different seals or run without the seal.

Thanks Roverhybrids, I figured there had to be some minor differences. Looks like I get to pull the front axle.

Thanks
