I have a chance to purchase an SM420 connected to a Rockwell T221 transfer case. Did some searching and found this picture.
I talked to the guy that does my Driveshafts and builds some trans. for us at the shop. He knows a little about the case, says it had some oiling problems, but did not think these would matter on a trail rig, he thinks the output for the rear can be moved over to exit like a Yota case does, also the rear output is about 6 inchs lower than a 205 or D300......anyone know the low gear ratio, or any other info?
This was OEM on a 67 Chevy 3/4 ton PU.
The pix I have are too big, I don not have a resizing program, someone that does holler and I'll send them to ya, or recomend a free resizing program that is redneck easy to use and I'll get it.

Butch:
I had one of these cases a few years ago - it had a 465 in front of it. The low range is 1: 1.96 (same as the 205 that replaced it). They are a good, strong case (some said almost as good as the 205) that I would have no hesitation using. Bearing and seal kits are available, but no other hard parts (gears and idler shafts). When I sold mine (on eBay) the buyer needed to cannibalize it to repair his case - there is a bronze bushing (bushings?) that go bad and are not available. If you move the rear output to the off-set position (which I believe can be done based upon internal inspection of mine) you only have 4WD. The off-set rear on mine had a PTO output.

Yup, that's a Rockwell alright! The "dome" on the right is for the PTO drive.

Yea, I also have access to one of these combo's, the guy wants $100.00 for bolth units with the adapter. I was wondering, if the T221 is the predisessor to the 205 , will the 205 bolt up to the adapter?

I've got both adapters around somewhere - might take a day to find them:eek: The drive sleeves appear to be the same (10 spline Chevy stuff) - the cool thing is that the 221 adapter is shorther than the 205 adapter, FWIW
Will get back to you on that.
