whose running 39.5 on a tj im here ?also what gearing are ya using if so 5.88's?i was just wondering cause i my have a sick deal on 5 39.5x15x16.5 tsl's and well just wanted to know what i have to do to make them fit with out sawzall action.hahahaha
i am running a 7 inch re longarm with 1 inch body and i clear 38 no problem but 1.5 is a bit bigger.i was thinking slapping in 8 inch coils until i can afford some coil overs...

well let me know if it is worth the hassle or should i just stick with 38.5x16x16.5
thanks fellas........

I say just stick w/ the 38.5"s, especially with stock wheel base (which I am assuming you are running) :D

the tj in this picture, the green jeep, has 39.5s. or as i like to call them, 40s. i don't think they are such a good idea on a stock wheelbase, or the stock axles. which they were. i like my 38.5s on my yj in the pic alot more. i think the sxs are a better tire, but thats just my opinion. thats ALOT of tire for a stock looking jeep. took 13 inches of lift to just barely clear them. that jeep would be more functional with smaller tires.

well until you said you ran hummer rims i waqs going to say no way to the 39.5's on 16.5" rims but now that i know you run hummers and a 14 bolt then i say go for it. your 14bolt will thank you.

Not wanting to trim the body and run tire that big is pretty retarded in my opinion. You will severly have to limit compression and/or lift way to much. The tires just will not physicly fit in the wheel wells without trimming. Just look at that green jeep, it sits VERY high and I'm sure the tires don't compress a whole lot, really sounds like a roll just waiting to happen, and if your worried about your body thats to cute to cut up how will you feel after you roll it?

A kid here in town just got his TJ back from 4WP. He's runn 39.5" Boggers on a stock TJ w/ D44 rear. He hasn't regeared either. Can't imagine but having only 3 gears left. Anyways if i'm not mistaken he is runnin 8" Rockready lift and 3" body. From the looks of it he is clearing everything just fine but will that much tire and that lilttle gear it can't be enjoyable to drive.

Trim it.

But if you don't have the balls....

This is pretty damned good suspension compression on my old TJ with about 6-6.5" of total suspension lift. I also had a 2" body...very "conservative" in terms of lift height compared to the other kits out there. Sorry, no pics of rear or any others with the flares.

The tire did rub the front of the fender flare, trimming the flare itself would fix that....

With all the coin you spent on the heep, you should have covered the basics : A CAGE maybe? :flipoff2:

I say go for it, my next trail tire will be a 39.5" but I have no conscience about pulling the sawsall. :flipoff2:

FYI, I had to trim some sheet metal to get my 37s to stuff.

last winter there was a guy runnin around on iron mountian with 44s on his TJ he had the stock 44 and 30 with 4.88s lockers and a 4.3 Atlas he said he only had blown 5 front UJs in 10 months like that.He was having issues with the 60s he had gotten from redline?and had to send them to somebody else to completly get them redone. He had a RE long arm6 w/ 2 inch spacers and moved his flares up a couple inches I got pics somewhere.

I remember seeing pics of that guy in the snow. 44's are entirely too big IMO. It looked cartoonish :p

And I don't consider only 5 blown u-joints/shafts in 10 months something to be happy about :flipoff2:

aaronlosey , that TJ has 13" of lift with D30 and D44, with 40"s????????

nope, he's running the 30/35 combo!! :flipoff2: broke a tie rod and his front spiders on that trip. he wasn't even remotely getting it.

it was very little coin, and i'm not even close to done yet. i don't even have any rear tow points yet!! its only been running around on the trail 2 or 3 times now, pretty much just playing and testing out the suspension. a cage will be coming soon. man this thing is time consuming. we can only build it sooooo fast.

Here's a few pics of a TJ that was part of our small run on Pritchett a couple months ago....

Specs from what I can remember....RE LA's, T60 Rear, RC44 Front with warns and CTM's, Tera low, blah blah blah. Last I heard he blew his front end on upper proving grounds and now he's putting a 60 up front and stretchin' it 10". Maybe the owner (Ryan) can chime in with the full details...

Well yes I do break the 44 when drunk guy comes out. I have only broke one axle at the con, 3 at the cal rocks in napa and one when I first built it. Just made a trip to the con this weekend and didn't break one at all. To get to the question about gears. I have 5:13 and they work great. I can do about 70 mph at 3000 rpm, and it does 19 seconds in the 1/4 mile at 64 mph. I had to check it out. Now for the lift I have the RE long arms 5.5 with 2" coil spacers and a 1" body lift. At full flex and backing up didn't work well it would pull the front finders back so cutting them became a must. Now for the rear no cutting needed but the tires will move what ever sheet metal that they need. I hope this info helps you make your mind up.

TJ7 what re lift are you running I have the long arm and it is only called a 5.5" what 7" do they have. I know the 5.5 gives you about 6.5 and that is close to 7, if i am wrong then I need to get new springs so I can go with 42" tsl's:nuke:
