I've got an M8000 that I'm trying to get working. power out works, however, power in doesn't... all i get is a clicking solenoid sound. its wired like the following picture:
http://www.teamcny.com/jeep/images/forum/warn_Winch_wiring.jpg
I've gone ahead and bypassed the solenoid pack making sure the motor spins in both directions. i've also put 12+/- to the 2 small posts of each solenoid individually to hear them click and make sure none of them are stuck.
am I looking at a bad solenoid or multiple solenoids dispite them clicking when power is applied? how to do go about isolating the faulty ones? or do i have a wiring problem? does the M8000 wire differently than the above picture?
Thanks

Did you mess with the controller wires? (try to put a switch in the dash)
I went through this about 3 months ago, it was a real pain in the ass!!
in would go in, not out. then out, not in. some times it would only work at half power and so on..........
if this is what your trying to do let me know and I will give you correct diagram :smokin:

well, yes and no. the vehicle this came out of had the controller plug mounted away from the solenoid box, so all the wires were cut and extended... so its been messed with, but no additional in-cab switch. right now, Im just trying to get it back working in typical fashion with solenoid box and recepticle right hose clamped right next to the winch, no additional switches/controls.
do you know how i could test winch function, bypassing the controller recepticle but still using the solenoid pack to rule out a wiring problem with the controller?

I dont, if its a newer one it has 5 wires that go to the controller. it also has a 6th wire that jumps 2 terminals in the controller switch, so 6 wires at the switch to make it work, that a little beyond my knowledge.
why cant it be like back in the good old days when it was 3 wires to run a winch :mad3: 1 power and giving power to either of the other 2 made the winch work!!!
I feel your pain, took me 2hrs to get it going right
The clicking you hear indicates the remote control is doing its job. The solenoids you see with the green wires attached to them (opposite corners) are for the power-in circuit. You have one bad solenoid in this circuit (clicking noise you hear is the good solenoid). To keep from guessing, replace both solenoids in this circuit and you'll be good to go.

I concur with one solenoid not working. I wired an in-cab switch for a friend some years ago and still my drawings from it. I can't scan the pictures but I'll try to draw something. Keep in mind that the switch supplies both a power and a ground to the solenoids.
Check and make sure your connections on the solenoids are clean and tight.

Here are my notes, the solenoid pack and the switch.

I have the same winch. Mine was new so wasn't messed with. I have notes and diagrams at home I made myself to wire in a cab set up for the winch. This is the best pic I have from when I ran wires to the cab. I'm not at home til next week but if ya don't get it working by then, assuming you don't have a bad solenoid, I'll see if I can find my diagrams I wrote up.
