Damn. I replaced my D44's pinion yoke two weeks ago and the pinion seal starts weeping today. Related? Who knows but probably is my guess.
Question is, does the seal just pop out like the axle seal I replaced a few months ago? Is it worth it to try packing it with Mopar's Gear Lube RTV to see if that's a permanent fix... or should I just replace the seal?
If I replace the pinion seal, is there anything different about replacing it vs. the axle seal? Can I just pop it out with a screwdriver or do I need something special? Damn, I can't help but think my screwing with the yoke somehow triggered the leak but I don't know why!

Just pull your yoke and replace. Did you prelube the seal, and polish up the yoke where the seal rides?

I only replaced the yoke itself and didn't touch the seal. The seal was replaced (it should have been anyway) when I had 4.10 gears and a Detroit Locker installed in March.

Well, there you go.
That will fawk up a seal everytime.
Aways replace seals when you disturb them in ANY way.
Doesn't matter if it is wheel seals, pinion seals, whatever.
Seals are usually cheap. Just pop the old pinion seal with a pry bar, and install the new one. You should also replace the pinion nut while you are there, they do not like to be reused very much.

TJ D44s use crush sleeves or shims?

lets see bubble gum it together or spend like 5 bucks on a new seal that will take 10 min to install.....

Shims. He also had a new pinion seal and pinion nut installed with his gear swap - remember that master install kit you bought Jerry?
The others are right though, if you went in there and swapped the yoke, you would have had to be very careful on the reinstallation not to fawk things up.

Thats what I'm sayin'!
Seals are dirt cheap, and take no time at all to swap out.
Once you pull that yoke out, (or remove a hub, or harmonic balancer, axle shaft, what ever.......) you have broken the seal between the inner suface and seal lip. Now go and reinstall the parts with the same seal, and the seal lip will never seal again.

That will just make it worse.
