Looking for some inspiration on where to mount a D-cell maglite in a TJ. Where do you guys have them?

In front of my seat under my legs. I have also seen them on the floor between the door and the seat. You just want it somewhere you can grab it in or out of the Jeep.

In my ass:flipoff2: I have mine bolted to the side of my seat riser. I used stainless marine oar holders that were like $3.

Maglites are a waste of cash now, old technology, bulky, and theres better things to use as a weapon if you are of that "Mentality". Between the batteries they eat and the cost of the light if you haven't upgraded to one of these yet you should consider it.

http://www.surefire.com/6P-Led

Yep its expensive, but so are batteries. It's smaller, fits in your pocket, it's WAYYYYYYY brighter then any maglite, you and put it in your mouth, it lasts 20 hours on a single set of batteries, I left it one one night, came back the next night to find it still on, dimmer, but bright enough to still use it, they have a cleaner beem then maglites. And they are durable as fuck, I had mine sitting on a table at the local range and one of the guys had a ND/AD and it was shot pretty much point blank (within 1-2') with a +P .45 ACP round. I picked it up, the case was a little disformed, but it still worked.

As for maglites, I had mine mounted to my dash above the gauge cluster. I threw that bitch away once I got a real flashlight though.

Maglites are a waste of cash now....

I was just about to come in here and fire that shit off....You beat me....

MAGlites are a dying breed(once mall security updates themselves these flashlights will be gone like Atari), mine is mounted at the local landfill also( along with all the little double AA ones that dont last past the first week after Christmas)...
Get a sure fire...I have a cheapo G2( I have a better one from work too) I believe that I picked up at Cabelas, and replaced the bulb w/ the higher lumens bulb...Here is some tech on a maglites, Point it at a wall at night and look at the "blind spots" it gives you...Either a good center brightness, w/ the edges blur'ed...OR a good outer w/ a blur'd center...Get any surefire and perofrm the same test, 100% of the light is applied to where you want it
I want you to have the best light too, so your not afraid of the dark:D...I wheel w/ NVG's(all the "cool guys" are getting rid of rock lights too, Im declaring the NEW trend) so have some flashlight discipline too....

i'm also a huge surefire fan, but my next project is getting one of these. 90-second charge, 2-hour run time.

Pentagon makes some cool lights to for those who have never seen/ heard of them...I like that 5.11 light...IMHO, 5.11 is starting to turn into a walmart for law enforcement stuff...I think...

Save your money and go buy one of these. (http://www.streamlight.com/product/product.aspx?pid=13)

Then mount it on the back of a tuffy center console and it will always be charged.

Mine is between the seats next to the P-brake.

It may or may not be your intent but many of you seem to be trash talking the maglights. Im not saying there isnt a better light out now but mine has been with me for 13 years and was in my truck when it burnt up. It still works great.

I mounted mine in MagLite clips right next to the drivers seat.

Surefires are cool, but I would hate to lose or damage a $100+ flashlight on the trail. With a MagLite I can get replacement batteries and parts at any hardware store in the country.

hell even the cheapie Coleman LED flashlights at Wally World are brighter than a maglite

Re-read the thread..It was just posted that one of these flashlights was shot by a .45, so I dont think your going to damage it..They are durable as HEll..Waterproof..If you lose the flashlight its on you, but if you lose a flashlight, you probably loose all kinds of other stuff too like hansel and gretel..( And they have a lanyard just for people who drop stuff, so you caqn tie to your belt or somthing)..

Anyways, back to the orignal topic:
I know this is about mounting a Faglite somwhere in a vehicle, but I dont want to be the guy lending my surefire to the guy who's got a Faglite that sucks a$$ and its wasting everyones time because we can't see a part 3 inches from our faces.. and now hes "loosing" my flashlight for me...Do yourself a favor and save 10/week and go buy a quality tool...You'' be thanking someone on here when your not afraid of the dark anymore...Mount your flashlight to your pocket( either front left or right maybe) so you'll have it at night( in case your spotting or something, I dont know), that way your not falling on your face if you leave your vehicle at night to go to the woodline...During the day put it up so you dont loose it...:homer:

I think you get funnier with every post.

OP-
Surefire's are the shit. They double as a kubaton also, which, in my experience, is a much better weapon than something cavemanish like a Maglite. I keep one in my pocket, one in my glove box, a cheap version in my tent bag, and a mid-sized Maglite in each footlocker.

Wow this thread derailed in the true pirate fashion.

All I was trying to say was don't waste time or money on the Mag light. Instead go buy an LED or a quality LED like a Surefire. Not everybody can justify spending that much money on a flashlight. I couldn't justify it either until we had a wheeling trip late one night and sure enough somebody lost a bead and here I am with this monster 4 D-cell Maglite, and I'm trying to keep it propped up against a rock shined on what I'm doing but it keeps falling, the lights are getting dimmer by the minute because I never use the damn thing and the batteries are dying. The batteries in my wheeling box had expired well past the shelf life, blah blah blah. It wasn't turning out to be a good night. So my light was all but worthless and I'm cursing it up and down. My friend comes over with the first surefire light that I linked (the 80 Lumen one) and it shines down on what we are doing like God himself opened up a hole in the heavens for us, and it lasted the entire night, because that fucking tire blew 2 more times that night. The next day I went out and bought 2 cheap 10 dollar LED lights. One for my pocket, the other for my glove compartments. My maglites went in the aluminum scrap bucket. They are dying technology, bulky, heavy, they have almost no battery life to speak of and bulbs burn out left and right. For the cost of 2 packs of D-cells you can have 2 hi-output LEDs flash lights that fit in the palm of your hand. Whether its a surefire or not is up to you. For me I ended up using my surefire for everything, for somebody else? Maybe not so much.

theres merit to the LED lights being better than an old MagLite.... going overboard with it is comical though...

Just to stir the pot a little more, MagLites have been available with LEDs for quite awhile now. And retrofit bulbs are available for older models too.

OP I m completely off topic, but it relates to your topic, so I m throwing it back out there...sorry..

Your right Sierra dave, and I am SO wrong..I was just trying to help everyone out so I dont see them out on the trail w/ a Donkey D%%% in their hands trying to help a broke jeep...Black sheep is so right about these things in the field, and how they suck...But I guess our military (that is stomping everything it sees at night) is inferior because they all switched from faglites to surefires/pentagons..Im glad your not the President of the treasuery, because theres no telling what kind of crap inferior equipment I would have had overseas...Too bad they didnt save money and convert the big ol' donkey d%%% flashlights to LED and save us some tax money too...I know it cool to bust out a flashlight longer than your schlong on the trail, Mall security doesn't even have to carry guns because these flash lights have such a "command presence",but come on...There is way better stuff out there.

If you dont want to wheel with me because I have a so called elitest "highend" 38 dollar flashlight, Im not to worried about it...If your scrimping that bad to save about $10, Id hate to see what else your cutting corners on in your rig...CHEERS!

And talkign about flashlights is FUNNY!::FLIPOFF::
